Pueblo Viejo Grill - Palm Desert

Delicious food and welcoming staff! It was our first time visiting, and we happened to come on one of their fajita nights (Tues/Thurs). The atmosphere was lively, with many diners ordering fajitas, and the aroma from all the sizzling plates filled the air. We quickly decided we need to return soon to try some ourselves, as we opted for a few different dishes this time. What a delightful little hidden gem!

This place is fantastic! It's our favorite Mexican restaurant in the valley. It's quite popular and tends to get busy starting around 4:30 p.m. They don’t take reservations, but if you call ahead while en route, they’ll try to hold a table for you if they can manage it. Our group of five each ordered something different. I opted for one chile relleno a la carte and a homemade corn tamale. They offer happy hour prices, so be sure to check the photos for details. The guacamole is outstanding, but make sure to ask for it with your chips before your meal; they often serve it alongside the main course instead. Their chile rellenos are just perfect—fresh, fluffy, light, not greasy or watery, and filled with just the right amount of cheese. Our server was excellent and attentive. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals, but we were too full for dessert. I’ve attached pictures of the full menu as of April 2023. The original location is in Indio, which we haven’t visited, but the one we frequent is on Cook Street in Palm Desert, close to the I-10 in an industrial area. They have outdoor seating, but it can be quite windy down there near the freeway. Definitely give them a try!

One of our favorite Mexican restaurants when we visit the desert. We usually stay in Rancho Mirage, but this place is definitely worth the short drive. It has a lively atmosphere with great decor. It can get quite busy, but the service is quick. The margaritas are delicious, and the warm chips with salsa make for a great starter. We shared the Chicken Chimichanga, but we wished it had some kind of sauce on it, which we've experienced at other places. Maritza provided friendly service. We hope to return next year!

Ate dinner here on 5/2/22. Visiting here from GA. We sat at the bar. Our server was fantastic. She was friendly, responsive and had a positive attitude. I had the tacos Al carbon. Wow, they were fantastic. Steak was really well marinated. The tamales were really tasty and well prepared. I’d definitely return next time I’m in CA. Price was very reasonable for quality food we ate.

Excellent Authentic Mexican cuisine! Such a great first experience, service was perfect. We sat on their outdoor patio which had heaters!!! Super comfortable and fun atmosphere. Friday night and the place was VERY busy, we were offered chips and salsa with drinks very quickly. Our server was BEYOND friendly, we really enjoyed her personality and attention to us the entire meal. I ordered the Grilled Burrito with steak, OMG probably one of the best steak Burritos I ever had. The steak is super tender and taste like fajitas sizzling in the Burrito. The wife got the flautas with chicken and bean with rice. The flautas were crispy and had a really tasty marinaded chicken flavor. The rice and beans are authentic and a perfect match to any dish. I washed my meal down with a Mezcal Mule and a pineapple and jalapeño mezcal drink that was EPIC. WE WILL BE BACK.
