The Wood on Wellington - Ottawa

Don't get me wrong, some of my best friends are sorts fans, just not me. This small and comfy place had about 10 tvs set to a variety of sports channels, but during the day the sound is all from light jazz radio. After dinner the game sound comes up and the keeners come in. My neighbor is a frequent visitor, so he introduced me to the regulars. An interesting crowd, willing to discuss a variety subjects- nice. Some fixed spots at the bar- Larry with his pc by the plugin, doing the spreadsheets for the game prizes, Louise at her perch at the end, Tammy at the other end. I come for the company and the cheap beer- even cheaper on Hump Wednesday. Good burgers too, or some sweet potato fries.

It was a busy Thursday night when we pulled into the wood for a drink and snack. Maybe the football game made it busier than normal, but surely management must have known that. There was one server working the bar and all tables. So service was slow. And in a age when everyone is trying to have more craft brews than the next guy, this place doesn't get into that at all. When this place opened, it was meant to be a pub - but a nice one. So maybe it was a bit ahead of the curve. Problem is that with so many other places now doing just that, the Wood feels a little left behind.

Visited this pub with a few friends to watch a NHL playoff game. Enjoyed a nice selection of taps and the food was straight forward and quality. The atmosphere is fun - lots of tvs and friendly and John the bartender is top rate.

They have some good beer on tap options. Burgers are good but they charge more for sweet potatoe fries which should be standard. The service is fine, you dont get that friendly waitresses but the food is ok. So if you want beer and a burger at a decent price then this is the place for you.

Really liked the restaurant and the atmosphere. The poutine was amazing. Service was a little slow but super friendly ! Totally recommend this place. Husband said it was one of the best burgers!
