We were driving around looking for a restaurant and we decided to stop in at the New Mukut. Our food was good. The service was excellent. It was a quiet night since it was raining outside. I shall return. The location is convenient for us. It is just 5 minutes away. Thank you for a nice restaurant. They also have take out. Very practical.
This is a small, family run restaurant located in a strip mall in the south east part of Orleans. It is an offshoot of the original Mukut restaurant in Ottawa. The food quality is good but not exceptional. Food prices were average. Liquor was expensive. The service is good but a bit spotty. That seemed to be because only the owner and his wife were serving customers. One tip ... don't show up with a Groupon. That's a bad idea.
We opted for the Dinner Combination for Two - Maharaja Dinner. We were served warm, crisp papadoms before the meal. The first course was a light and flavourful dal soup. The main courses of chicken tikka masala consisted of tender morsels of chicken in a smokey, mildly sweet sauce rich with flavour (a favourite for both of us). The beef curry was wonderfully tasty but the meat could have been simmered longer for added tenderness. The aloo Gobi was a delightful and flavourful vegetarian dish of potatoes and cauliflower cooked in mild curry. The dishes were accompanied by fluffy, steaming-hot basmati rice and freshly made soft naan. The dessert, Rashmalay, was a masterpiece! A perfect balance of sweetness, texture, and exquisite flavourings. The waiters were prompt and professional. We had a Groupon for $30 for Dinner for Two which had unfortunately expired by 6 days, but, nonetheless, were given a credit of the cost of the Groupon. For those who have posted negative comments about the restaurant concerning the Groupon deal, it clearly states to advise the staff before ordering, which did not occur in your case. Further, instead of being informed of how the deal works, you assumed you would dine for free and when you learned it was not so, you hastened to lash out at the restaurant.
Let me tell you - I do know Indian food well, coming from UK originally, have traveled many times to India. In Toronto (where I live) is almost impossible to find a Dhansak dish, yet here not only did they serve it, but also was incredibly great!(I had a chicken dhansak)The lunch special also came with a soup, which was a Mulligatawny style with dhall, but very nice and great portion, along with my lunch, which I only had half, the other half is for dinner tonight - yummy!!!
