Metcalfe Fare - Ottawa

We have become regulars at the Metcalfe Fare Restaurant, we go maybe once a week for either breakfast, lunch or dinner.We live 5 minutes from the restaurant, and it is by far the best choice in the village.The breakfast, particularly the Eggs Benedict are very good.My favourite lunch is the Veggie Wrap, delicious with goat cheese.And our favourites for dinner are the salmon, as good as in any fancy restaurant, and my husband likes the meatloaf.The decor is very pleasant. The bar area is off to one side so people can meet for a nice drink. The bathrooms are very nice and clean.It is kind of sporty, so there are a couple of big TV screens.And when it's nice out, it is nice to sit on their patio, even though it's facing the parking lot. An addition of some plants around the fence would be welcomed.

Most experiences I have had the food is good. I feel the service needs big improvement and waitresses should not just focus on bar patrons (men)

Service - friendly waitress but very slow kitchen.Decor - modern and very clean.Atmosphere - uninspiring.Food - awful. We ordered a pizza - overcooked, burnt on much of the top and bottom surfaces. The crust was too tough in places to be cut with a knife, it had to be torn apart. Too salty. I left the restaurant with a nasty taste in my mouth.Only the friendliness of our waitress and the condition of the decor stop me from giving the Metcalfe Fare a terrible overall rating.

Went for lunch with some friends. We've been here before and find it good for lunch. There isn't a lot of choices in the area, which makes this place kind of stand out. It's clean, fairly new and inviting. The service was friendly and efficient. As for the food, I would have to be a little more critical. The others (who had burger plates) were reasonably pleased, but I was not so enthused. I had the daily soup, which was over spiced, had a terrible dark appearance, and lacked any decent taste. I sent it back and was not charged. I also ordered the chili which was just OK. My overall verdict? I would go back as the pluses outweigh the negatives. As I said, it's the best of what's available.

Breakfast was a wait of 40 minutes in a pub that was less than half full. Food was OK, nothing spectacular and if you are hungry, don't order the French Toast....2 small pieces of toast sandwiched together wilth cream cheese, although the fruit with it was excellent.
