Havana Cafe And Catering - Ottawa

We came to this restaurant in their early years and we really enjoyed the authentic Cuban food. This year we had the opportunity to come back and we were quite impressed to see that the restaurant has been upscaled with the warm Latin decor and the beautiful presentation of the dishes. Chef Oslaide has done a wonderful job in taking his restaurant and food to a higher level with the plating, taste and quality of the authentic Cuban dishes. The traditional Ropa Vieja, which is stewed shredded beef cooked with tomatoes, onions and pepper, was very tasty. The Cerdo asado sliced slow roasted pork was nicely seasoned bringing back memories of home cooking. Finally, the Pescado al Ajillo was Bass Fillet in garlic tomato sauce was delicious. Stopped in for a traditional "Cuban sandwich" (which they call un Clasico) today. Sandwich was 6 stars out of 5....delicious, tender braised pork, perfectly grilled bread, etc. Homemade lemonade was also wonderful with a nice zap of mint.My only gripe was with the side salad- previously a normal salad (as we North Americans know salad) m,mostly made of lettuce, with a few extra veggies, it is now a weird mish-mash of TINY pieces of lettuce, endive, cabbage, celery, parsley....por favor caballeros, hagan la ensalada como antes!Overall though this place is always worth a visit.

Need a break from winter? Then go to the Havana Cafe where you will be transported to the old City. Great food and lovely restaurant.

After a mediocre experience with food from my own home town I decided to try Cuban food. I have nothing to say but WOW, so flavourful and delicious and it was well worth the extra waiting time. Alberto our server was so friendly and great. If I had 4 hands I'd give them a 4 thumbs up however I am giving them a 4 thumbs up since my son also loved all the dishes we had. We had the daily platter with fish and even though my son doesn't like fish he ate it all! If you are in Ottawa you MUST visit Havana Cafe. a small menu but big flavors. BRAVO!

First time there, after hearing how good it was and Im so glad we went. I love Cuba and this is the closest you can get here. The food was just fantastic, great flavours and tasty. Just loved Alberto the waiter, great service and a joy to talk too. Will definitely be back, this place will be on my go to list from now on. Highly recommend and its gluten free friendly.
