Contribuiți la feedbackDecided to use a Groupon for an early dinner, since we were in the vicinity. We like Indian cusine, and this plase did not disappoint. We ordered one of the Meals for 2, which included Muligatawny soup, two entrees, one beef and one chicken (both were fork tender), a vegetable dish with potato and cauliflower, a plate of rice, Nan, two pcs of papadam and galub Jamun for desert. There was more food than we could eat at one sitting, so were provided with take-a-way containers to bring home. This whole meal is listed on the menu for 45.99 and our Groupon covered $30.00 of it. Staff were friendly and answered all our questions.
We thought we'd try the Glebe Indian Cuisine out when we saw the Groupon offer as it's a restaurant in our neighborhood that we had not yet discovered and we very much enjoy Indian cuisine. The food was 'good', pricy for what you got though. We purchased a couple of plates to share. A mixed Tandoori plate that cost 21.99 was mostly rice: there were 4 shrimps, and a few pieces of chicken and lamb (which was very dry), the masala and naan were excellent. The problem was with the bill and what we perceived as intentional overcharging. We were overcharged and pointed this out to our server. He indicated it would be sorted out at the till. So we went to the till and re-tallied our bill, which came to a somewhat reduced price (i.e. he corrected 1 of the three errors). He insisted on applying the Groupon only AFTER TAX, which didn't make sense to us and we told him as much. He informed us that this was written directly on the Groupon - yet we saw that it was not. This point aside, we politely indicated the bill was still not correct and we were being overcharged. After some persistence on the matter, he finally indicated that the total included a 15% gratuity (there was no indication of this on the hand written bill, which included some seemingly random numbers) and by all appearances, unless we had scrutinized the bill, we would have tipped on the total (erroneous) amount - more than $20 over on what should have been a $57 meal (pre-groupon). He was insistent that they apply a 15% tip after fed. and prov taxes and said that they did this "because some people only tip $1, that's why we do that". We informed him that we were good tippers, and intended on tipping on the full value of the meal (pre-groupon) but we were only a party of two and not comfortable with having the tip pre-applied to make up for others not leaving tips. After some back and forth, he removed the 'after taxes 15% gratuity'. We tipped on the entire value of the meal, but won't be back. By all indications we were overcharged intentionally and for this reason we will never return. In general, we have been disappointed with the few restaurants we have tried out with Groupon. Our favorite restaurants already have the right formula - great food and great service... and don't need Groupons to attract their clientele.
This is a spin-off of the Mukut restaurant and it is identical to its parent in every way. That is high praise. What makes these two restaurants particularly special are the parsee dishes.
Visited with the family on the basis of recommendation of friends who said the Buffet was very good. Except for the onion Baji (really good), all was just so so.All the meat dishes had big chunks of potato in them, there was a touch of sweetness to everything and the Madras, Vandaloo, Aloo all seemed to have the same base sauce just with differing levels of heat.In the Glebe stick to the Taj Mahal
We went for an early supper. The restaurant was not busy at all, but it appeared it had a lot of take-out orders. We had lamb korma and butter chicken; they were both very tasty, and the naan was very good. Service was prompt and professional.
