Contribuiți la feedbackAfter driving by this place for so long my wife and I wanted to try something different for lunch and decided to give it a try. As most people know there is not a lot to choose from in Oshawa but we now have a new favourite place, and it's called Coconut Cove. Not really knowing what to expect from a restaurant that shares a front door with a laundromat, walking in we were immediately advised by two customers with carry out that the food was amazing. We were warmly greeted by the owners and the chef showed us what was freshly cooked. The choices we saw on the menu were typical Caribbean fare, jerk chicken, oxtail stew, curried chicken and curried goat and each could be had on a choice of 2 different kinds of rice, or in a roti. The chef was also trying out a new dish of stewed chicken which was not on the menu. I had the jerk chicken in a roti and my wife had the stewed chicken on rice. The roti was fresh with nice texture and the jerk was flavourful but not too spicy with potatoes, chickpeas and veg. My wife's stewed chicken was slightly sweet chicken pieces on the bone and served with potatoes and chickpeas and veg (spinach I think). Both dishes were very good. In speaking with the owners we found out that they were from Trinidad and I asked if they could make doubles. Anyone who knows Trini food knows doubles - very hard to find in Toronto never alone in Oshawa - they are a common street food in Trinidad made with 2 flat fried breads called bara filled with curried chickpeas and chutney and hot sauce. The chef said that he could quickly make up a few. He did, and I ate them (yes, even after the huge roti) and they were delicious. The place is small but the taste is big, and we will definitely be checking this place out again in the near future.
The food was amazing, the staff was very friendly. Best Caribbean food around! Would recommend the doubles, its not on the menu you have to ask for them but they are amazing!
