Durango Mexican - Opelika

This is one of the few authentic Mexican restaurants in our area, so I've visited a few times. However, I find the food lacks flavor. The chicken is simply pulled from the bone and placed in the enchilada without any seasoning. The beans taste like they came straight from a crockpot without much effort. The cheese dip is mostly just melted cheese, with little else to offer. When I seek out Mexican cuisine, I look for bold spices, character, and depth of flavor. Perhaps people in this region have developed a preference for milder dishes, and this is the simplest Mexican food they can handle. However, as someone who grew up on the LA/TX border, I find this experience to be the bare minimum for Mexican food and not worth my time or money.
