A SUPER SOLID PLATE OF CAKES, THIS UNIQUE BLEND OF INGREDIENTS PLAYS THE MOST DECADENT BOSSA NOVA TUNE FOR THE DANCE FLOOR THAT IS YOUR TASTE BUDS. EVEN MORE COOL, THEY LOOK LIKE A ROTTING BEAR CARCASS, BUT TASTE EVEN BETTER. THE SAUSAGE LINKS ARE THE RUSTIC BRICK PAVEMENT TO YOUR CINDERELLA-THEMED PROM NIGHT. OH, THE PLAIN PANCAKES - JUST PASS ON THOSE, THOUGH. ONLY COME HERE WHEN YOU'RE NEEDING A CHEESY, BERRYEY, SYRUPY SYMPHONY OF THE SENSES. THEIR PLAIN CAKES ARE AVERAGE, IF THAT. THE ATMOSPHERE IS PROBABLY ITALIAN. I DON'T KNOW, I'VE NEVER BEEN TO ITALIA. BUT FROM THE FEW TIMES I'VE BEEN HERE, I'VE BEEN ABLE TO EAVESDROP IN ON SOME OF THE STAFF CONVERSING WITH THEIR REGULARS, AND ALL THINGS SEEM TO CHECK OUT AND LINE UP WELL WITH YOUR PRECONCEIVED ITALIAN STEREOTYPES AND PREJUDICES. SO FEEL NO NEED TO GO IN OPEN-MINDED. YOU'LL HAVE YOUR CLASSIC GODFATHER-ESQUE FIGURE SITTING BY HIMSELF READING A NEWSPAPER. YOU HAVE YOUR SMALL FLOCK OF OLD FOLKS REMINISCING ABOUT GOOD TIMES, COMPLAINING ABOUT CURRENT TIMES, AND SWAPPING SHOCKINGLY INAPPROPRIATE TALES OF SEXUAL CONQUEST IN THE PUBLIC SPACE IN WHICH YOU DINE. AND THEN YOU HAVE THE AFFECTIONATE FAMILIARITY WITH WHICH THE HOSTS SEEM TO GREET AND SERVE ALL THEIR GUESTS, SOLIDIFYING IN MY MIND THE POSITIVE STEREOTYPE OF ITALIAN HOSPITALITY. HEY, SOME STEREOTYPES CAN BE GOOD. IT REALLY IS GREAT. BUT THEN THIS ONE GUY CAME IN TO THE RESTAURANT WITH LONG HAIR, A BACKWARDS CAP WHICH HE DIDN'T REMOVE, SUNGLASSES WHICH HE KEPT ON, AND AS IF THOSE THINGS WEREN'T RUDE ENOUGH HIS SHIRT SAID "EDDIE HAZEL B***H!!!" WHO IS EDDIE HAZEL B***H, AND HOW DOES HE GET AWAY WITH THAT KIND OF A LAST NAME? THE BATHROOM WAS PRETTY DECE. I LOVED THAT THE PAPER TOWEL WAS SITTING ON TOP OF THE TOILET INSTEAD OF IN THE EMPTY ROLLER. IT'S A GUY THING. ACTUALLY, I DON'T KNOW HOW YOU LADIES GET BY, NOT BEING A GUY. IT'S SO MUCH FUN, DESPITE WHAT FEMINISTS WOULD HAVE YOU BELIEVE. THEN I WENT TO THE MOVIES, CAUSE I'M A BOSS, AND NOW WHOA HEY, IF YOU WANT TO SEE A RAD BATHROOM, GO TO AMC OAKVIEW THEATER. SOME SNAZZY BATHROOMS. AND THEY HAVE PIBB, AND THEY STILL HAVE PUBLIC BUTTER DISPENSERS SO YOU CAN DROWN YOUR POPCORN IN IT, AND SALT SHAKERS, AND I MEAN WHAT ELSE DO YOU EVEN WANT? AND THEY'RE CHEAPER THAN MOST THEATERS IN OMAHA. AND THEY'RE REALLY CLOSE TO WHERE I LIVE, SO I MEAN WHY WOULDN'T YOU GO TO THIS THEATER? I SAW THE LOBSTER WITH COLIN FERRELL. I LOVE THE SCENE WHERE THEY'RE DANCING TO ELECTRONIC MUSIC IN THE WOODS. OH MAN, GO SEE THAT MOVIE, WHAT A RIOT. DON'T BRING YOUR KIDS, THEY PROBABLY WOULDN'T GET IT. ALSO IT'S INAPPROPRIATE. ALL IN ALL, AMC OAKVIEW I GIVE A 5/5.

Informal Italian Diner. We have dined at Amato's several times, with varying experiences. This is first and foremost a diner, so no one should go here expecting anything more than comfort food, served in an informal atmosphere. Service is likewise informal, which is usually just fine, but at times comes off as unprofessional to the point of being crude. My most recent experience was better than during earlier visits. The wait staff and bussers hustled to clear tables, serve orders and keep coffee and water refilled. You can easily get in and out in 45 minutes. The food is good, basic diner food, with a definite Italian slant. Above all Amato's is known for their breakfasts, which are large and delicious. The "Mistake" omelet is my favorite. It features red pepper slices and Italian sausage. Yum! Don't go here for the coffee. It really is awful. -----03 Jan, 2010----- A dive with good food. Basic, no frills diner, with good food. Across the street from Aksarben Village.
Blah..... I really don't get what people see in this place. First, service is ok, but really not great. I ordered what the waitress called "that's what we're famous for" - the Italian Steak Sandwich. It was the blandest, toughest piece of "meat" I've ever tried to eat. Served DRY on really good bread (more on that in a bit) with a few canned roasted peppers and some sort of cheese. I took a couple of bites and asked the waitress for some sauce because honestly it just had no flavor. She brought some sauce, which I dipped the sandwich in. This sauce isn't very flavorful either. The best part of the meal was the salad - the dressing is very good - sweet red wine vinager dressing. On the bread - the bread served is from Orsi's. There was a slice of their twist bread with the salad - yum, and then the roll for the sandwich was really fresh and chewy - just perfect. Overall, I can say that I really won't ever go back - this place just isn't that great. Sorry Sammy - I wish you the best though.
