Contribuiți la feedbackLarge alternative accommodation if you want to come from Salkantay/Hydroelectrica and avoid Aguas Calientes (recommended). The staff is very helpful, the beds are clean and warm, toilets are clean, the water is hot, the meals are delicious with vegetarian options, there is a good view of the river, and not many crowds. It is just a 25-minute walk from the lodge to the base of the route to Machu Picchu, and the gardens of Mandor are right across the railways and is a pleasant walk, even if you wander all week. It is interesting to give a name to all plants you see here, and at the end of the way swimming is allowed.
Great place for lunch before or after Los Jardines de Mandor. The staff is super nice, the food is fresh and there is WiFi. What else do you need?
Awesome surprise, after the walk from town and the small hike to the waterfall, this place was a great surprise. Cosy, friendly, delicious and wonderfully down to earth...if one can say that with the amazong view it offers. Definitely worth the stop!
We loved this restaurant, we ordered two menus de casa which included a delicious homemade, thick chicken and vegetable soup, a delicious and tender beef dish served with rice, and fresh squeezed lemon lime juice. All of that plus two coffees and two bottles of water for S/36 (about $12 USD) TOTAL! What I liked even more about the restaurant is that they take environmental stewardship seriously, they keep the area around the restaurant and the rail line spot less, maintain a botanical garden, use locally sourced ingredients, recycle everything, keep power consumption to a minimum (they make great use of natural lighting), separated their organic from inorganic waste, and partner with an eco friendly lodge. These are all things you will not find anywhere else in the mega-polluting city of Aguas Callientes. My only regret is that we didn't find this place sooner. It made a perfect rest and recovery area after 9 hours of hiking and the 1 1/2 hour hike up Machu Picchu mountain and offered great views and tranquility a mere 20-30 minute walk from the cesspool that is Aguas Callientes.
