Far Western Tavern - Old Orcutt

I am very sad by our experience. I LOVE Far Western and when family came from out of town for my daughters high school graduation, I was excited to take them to Far Western for the grad dinner. Needless to say, it was the worst experience that I have ever encountered at this resturant. To start, our servicer did not greet up for about 15 mins, then did not ask us if we wanted any appetizers. Came back about 20 mins later with our drinks walked away. Then we waited about 15 more minutes for him to return to take our order apps too). Apporoximately 40 mins later, I flagged him down and asked when our app would come out, making sure that it would not come out with our dinner or right before, he said it will be out soon , then returned a few mins later to say he forgot to submit our order. He then said he would take it off our bill. About 15 mins later, he came back to let us know that they were out of wedges for the Wedge Salad my daughter 's meal) and said he would take that off the bill also. My filet mignon was cold and flavorless, my mother 's steak sandwich was extra chewy, out of the 6 of us, only 2 people truly enjoyed their meals. I have never experienced anything bad at Far Western and I have loved their food for many many years. Maybe just a bad night, but as this was my daughters graduation dinner, this was the worst night for a bad night to happen. Such a bummer and embarrassing since I raved about Far Western to my out of town family. :

We had a wonderful time at Far Western Tavern celebrating my birthday. We had a little problem with the Filet Mignon being overcooked but our waitress was very apologetic and we did have to wait awhile for the baby back ribs. Our waitress was just wonderful about everything that was going on with our meal. I can't say enough about our waitress. I did not get upset because of our waitress.

Food and atmosphere were great, service was decent but they rushed to get us out of the restaurant, couldn't finish dinner and we already had the receipt at the table, didn't even wait to see if we wanted dessert

This restaurant was recommended by the front desk person at our hotel. We made reservations at another restaurant we always go to on our way to or from LA when we take Hwy 101. It was a really great restaurant with an old western feel but really nice. Service was excellent and food exceptional. I would've given this restaurant an overall 5 but it took over an hour (1.25 hours) to to cook the double pork chop. And even though it said could take up to 45 minutes which we totally understood but we arrived at 5:15 when the restaurant just opened and not many guests in the restaurant. I would still highly recommend anyone near Santa Maria to experience Far Western Tavern (actually in Orcutt just outside of Santa Maria) it's worth the visit.

We visited the Far Western Tavern on a Saturday evening in April. The place was bustling with diners. The ambience was nice old time western look. We started out with cocktails the special Manhattan and an old fashioned. Both were delicious. My husband and I shared the surf turf, steak and lobster dish, which included a shrimp cocktail appetizer and salad. Everything was more than enough to share. The steak and lobster were cooked perfectly. The lobster was melt in your mouth. The steak was tender and juicy. The only downside was the wait for the main dish, which took a while, but was well worth it. Service was very good in general. All servers seemed to work as a team. We'd definitely come back here again.
