Pizza is thicker and more doughy than I. The past and now it tastes liked canned tomatoes with random hints of onion on a thick doughy crust with mozzarella with crappy service that used to be endearing when the pizza rocked. Eehhh pizza with crappy service is bad all over
They don 't answer the phone because they are so busy. I would like to address the comment from the customer who states the crowd is old and the place is not fun....well obviously she is part of the team that took over Revellos pizza in old forge which was at one time an impossible place to get a seat at even though it was quite dull and full of old people. However now it is hip and up to date but almost always empty...why you ask? because people come for the pizza not the music and décor. Revellos Café will be out of business within 5 years and Ghigiarellis the old people dump will be selling quality old forge pizza for the next hundred years!
If you want white pizza to die for, then come to Ghigiarelli's. Bold statement I know. Old Forge is full of some of the best tasting pizza anywhere, and there are as many opinions as there are restaurants on Main Street. I, however, really love the white pizza here. It's the main draw. The white pizza is double crusted. So if you don't like crust, perhaps go across the street. But if you do like crust, this is your place. The crust is coated with rosemary and onions. Mmh! As for the cheese... The cheese inside just oozes out from both sides, as your heart gets one step closer to a heart attack with every bite. So delicious! The red pizza is also good, but not as good as the white. The sauce has onions in it, which adds a nice addition to the flavorful sauce. The crust is crispy. Get a half tray first to see if it fits up to par for your idea of what red should be. The wait staff consists of some lifers, who seem to equally serve tables and work in the kitchen. They won't hassle you, but don't waste their time. All in all though, the restaurant has a family vibe. The decorum is nothing special, but that's not the point. People come here for friends, family, and food.
Not sure what the big deal is about Old Forge style pizza. I'll take a nice thin crust New York style any day. We waited close to 90 minutes to get our tray of pizza at this place. Other people that came in after us got their pizza before us, and they were not overly busy. I was disappointed in Ghigiarelli's. We may try another Old Forge place just to make sure that we are not missing something based on our poor experience here.
(This is on 511 S Main in Old Forge, PA) One of the best in Old Forge, if you like your sauce onion-y. Great dough.
