The New Mr Spud Cafe - Okotoks

The restaurant was recommended by the hotel I am staying at. It did not disappoint. Great Halibut and Chips with homemade coleslaw, gravy and most importantly tartar sauce. The owner is charming and pleasant to chat with. Makes you feel very welcome. Which is nice when you are a visitor to the area.

We took our daughter here for fish and chips. It was our first time. First thing we saw was the "cash only" sign. So we had to run down the street to an ATM. Who doesn't have interac or credit cards in 2017?We ordered the 2pc halibut and chips.I found my fish dry and did not like the frozen fries. The sign on wall from Zumato had a review that someone said the homemade chips were superb. Our fries were from frozen not homemade.The server was friendly and said they had the best won ton soup in the world. I should have tried it as I was not impressed with the fish and chips.We won't go again as there are far better places to get fish and chips.

Every once in a while we need a feast of deep fried halibut or cod. Only one place to go, Mr. Spud. You won't go away hungry and the husband and wife team are very accommodating. Only seats about 25 people so come early at lunch time.

Some, on first sight, might say that Mr. Spud is a hole in the wall or a greasy spoon. Nothing could be further from the truth. Mr. Spud is a little gem in the heart of downtown Okotoks. Family run with a basic but varied menu, Mr. Spud serves up home made meals at a very reasonable price - cash only. It's very small and can be very busy so get there early. Their Wor Won Ton, fish and chips and burgers are all excellent.

Took the wife here after reading all these great reviews. So i must ask, have people lost their taste buds. The fish and chips was greasy. And i mean more then the norm. It was gross. Then the wonton soup was weak and left an after taste. Okotoks has way better places for soup. Finally the place itself looked like it needed a cleaning since well, since they first opened. I won't be back. Left me thinking how sick am i going to get after i ate there.
