Contribuiți la feedbackI decided to grab a late breakfast at this restaurant after an early morning meeting in the area. The staff was friendly, easy to talk to, and welcoming. They had a variety of food options that were cooked fresh in a clean and organized kitchen. I really enjoyed my meal and the overall atmosphere of the restaurant. It had a great sense of community.
After hearing that this is the place to go for a late bite in Ohsweken, i found myself there the other evening. Although I believe it is mostly known for its pizza, I decided to order something I hadn't had in a long while: poutine. I asked for a small order, no gravy. I got a large, with gravy. Because I had ordered it to go, I didn't discover the error until I got back to my hotel, and by then just didn't feel like driving back. Even more disappointing, the fries were terribly soggy and the whole thing was just a greasy mushy mess. I will say this though: the staff were rushed off their feet with both walk-in and phone in orders to go plus several patrons eating in. They were very pleasant and friendly despite the fact that they were incredibly busy.
If you are near Oshweken be sure to go to the Village Cafe which is just a bit east of the main lights of the village on the fourth line. Not only do you get a delicious, fresh, and reasonably price meal, (example: $5.25 for a complete breakfast), you also have the experience of being in a lively, bright, clean, friendly, family oriented meeting place full of interesting 6 nations people. The staff are efficient and courteous, and although we are not native we have always been warmly received. I'm not a smoker, but my wife is, and it is a treat for her to be able to "light up" after a meal with her coffee. There is an air exchanger which keeps the place smoke free, and I have never seen more than 3 or 4 people smoking at once, so if you have some tolerance for smoke it will not be a problem. Tobacco is an important part of native culture, and so if you have an acute intolerance of smoke take this as a warning, but if you like a smoke, relax and enjoy a freedom rarely experienced in Ontario nowadays.
The food at this restaurant is delicious, and the staff are attentive and friendly. It has a comfortable down-home atmosphere that both locals and visitors enjoy. Every dish I have tried has been excellent, especially their breakfast dishes.
We were back to the Village Cafe, and we again very much enjoyed the meal and ambiance, but I am adding this update to my previous review - they are now non smoking. I asked the waitress how this change came about, and they told me it was a decision made by management after receiving complaints from customers, not an imposed policy. We still enjoy the place, but that element of coffee and a smoke is gone.
