I visited Coopers Alehouse for lunch on a weekday and found street parking to be quite easy. It had been about six years since my last visit, and I always remembered this place as a top choice for schnitzel, so that’s what I came for. Our table ordered a chicken parma, a beef schnitzel, and fish and chips. We didn't realize that the schnitzels didn't come with salad, so we also ordered a side salad. The parma was decent, but it wasn't as juicy as I remembered. The beef schnitzel, served with Diane sauce, was a bit disappointing due to noticeable chunks of tendon, which made it difficult to cut and chew. On the other hand, the fish (flathead) turned out to be the most expensive dish, but it was well worth it—the batter was good, and the fish was tender. The chips were fresh and delicious, too. Overall, it was a nice meal, but I wish the schnitzels had been better since they were the highlight I was looking forward to.
This isn’t one of my favorite pubs in Adelaide, especially considering my previous experience with the schnitzel during a work lunch one afternoon—it didn't impress me at all. However, I thought I’d give it another try while I was back in Adelaide for Christmas, and my opinion hasn’t changed much. It’s a decent pub, but not among the best I've been to. They offer two dining options: a wood-fired pizzeria and a traditional restaurant. It’s worth noting that when I visited, it was quite busy, likely because of the holiday season.
Heaven in the form of schnitzel. Dining here is consistently a delightful experience, particularly when considering the value for money. The atmosphere has a cozy 'pub' feel, which I really enjoy. The portion sizes are quite generous, and the quality of the meals is impressive for a city pub. Sure, you might find cheaper options elsewhere, but it's the combination of all these factors that makes it a fantastic choice. The pizzas are also surprisingly good for a pub. Typically, pub pizzas tend to be an afterthought—lacking any redeeming qualities and only really palatable when you're completely intoxicated, but not quite drunk enough to think grabbing a kebab is a good idea. Their version of my favorite, the margherita with buffalo mozzarella, is quite satisfying. I've definitely paid more for worse. They also host a lot of live performances, though I can't really comment on them since I haven't had the chance to see any yet.
This is an amazing spot to watch football alongside local fans (Crows vs. Hawks), as the crowd's energy was truly infectious! My two friends really enjoyed their drinks, but since I was the designated driver, I can’t provide any feedback on the quality of the beverages.
