Ohakune Tavern

I had a wonderful meal at Osteria last night, Sunday. We didn’t have a reservation, but they managed to seat the two of us without any issues at 5:30 PM. The food was fantastic! We started with the garlic and cheese bread, which was a small portion but very light and full of flavor. For our main courses, we ordered the pork belly risotto and the salmon penne, both of which were absolutely delicious! And don't be misled by the photo—there was actually a generous amount of fish tucked beneath the pasta. If you enjoy a bit of spice, make sure to ask for the chili oil; it really enhanced the dish for me. To finish off our meal, we had tiramisu, which had a bold and rich coffee flavor. It was the perfect ending to a lovely evening in Italy!

We started with the arancini, which were unexpectedly delicious. The crispy outer layer paired with the creamy and flavorful risotto filling was a real treat. For my main course, I chose the gnocchi with peas and bacon, and it was incredibly tasty. The combination of the tender gnocchi, sweet peas, and smoky bacon created a delightful flavor profile. My partner ordered the ribeye and couldn't stop praising it, claiming it was one of the best steaks he had ever eaten. The meat was perfectly cooked—tender and bursting with flavor. Osteria Ohakune excels in Italian cuisine, and they certainly deliver. Each dish showcased careful attention to detail and brought authentic Italian flavors to our table. The service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was cozy and welcoming. I highly recommend Osteria Ohakune to anyone seeking a simple yet delightful dining experience with excellent Italian food.

The cutest Italian restaurant I've ever been to! I walked in around 5:45 PM on a Sunday evening and was promptly seated. The food was incredible and arrived at our table quickly, and the staff were absolutely delightful. It’s a fantastic spot for a cozy date night!

Had the salmon pasta which was good with side of veges. The side consisted of carrots and beans and one cauliflower floret. Was expecting a variety. And floating in butter and gone cold. Service was generally good but tried to get attention of waitress was not easy (ignored? . We sat in the 'outer ' bit. Later Learnt of area in the inner part with better atmosphere.
