Lago Su Bella - Oconomowoc

My wife and I had a fantastic time during our second visit to Lago Su Bella. As we discussed how to rate our experience, we realized we couldn't think of anything they were lacking. The chicken piccata was incredible—possibly the best chicken dish I've ever had. My wife couldn't stop praising the truffle ravioli. The wine and cocktails were superb, and the service was impeccable. We will definitely be returning frequently.

Fantastic! I was on a business trip and decided to check Yelp for the best nearby restaurants. This one was at the top of the list, and it certainly lived up to the hype. I tried the Butcher's Ragu on the first night and the Bondarino the next. Both dishes were outstanding, but the ragu was the clear winner!

Before ordering, we specifically asked if the pasta was homemade, as we expected it to be given the prices. She informed us that it wasn't. Despite this, we went ahead and ordered anyway, reasoning that Italian food is all about the flavor. My husband chose the Frutti di Mare, priced over $30. It arrived with one scallop, two medium-sized prawns, four mussels, and a lot of calamari, which seemed either frozen or overcooked, leaving it quite chewy. The sauce tasted like spicy ketchup, which is far from what I expect from an Italian restaurant; tomato-based sauces should be rich and well-developed, and this one lacked depth and flavor. I ordered the night’s special—a halibut with risotto—which was absolutely delicious; the fish was cooked to perfection. Overall, we are very unlikely to return, as the quality of the food does not justify the high prices, and it seemed that too much of what we had was not made from scratch. We had a couple of minor issues. Firstly, the tables by the window can get a bit chilly in the winter, which can be a surprise! My girlfriend tends to get cold easily, so just a heads up to dress warmly if you're like her. Personally, I was fine with the temperature. Secondly, parking in front of the restaurant is somewhat limited. It’s not a major concern; just drop your date off at the entrance and park across the street. As an update, I must mention that the lobster bisque was among the best we've ever tasted!
