Sushi N Joy - Oceanside

This is a fantastic little sushi spot! It's my top pick in San Diego County! True, it's located in a strip mall, and yes, there’s a preserved pufferfish hanging from one of the lanterns... but the sushi is absolutely amazing! The rolls and pieces are generously sized. The hand roll was stacked like an ice cream cone, overflowing with deliciousness! You definitely get your money's worth here. The waitstaff is friendly and polite, and the owner and head sushi chef, Steve, is quite a character! If you stay on his good side, he’ll treat you very well! Overall, it's a charming, laid-back place with outstanding food. It's definitely worth a visit if you're in the area!

I remain hopeful that they will reopen, whether at their original location or a new one. There's a GoFundMe page available—just search for "Sushi N Joy." Unfortunately, there was a kitchen fire in August, and Steve suffered significant burns. Their sushi was some of the best in all of San Diego County and offered unbeatable value. I wish Steve, his wife, and their staff all the best in whatever they choose to do, and I'm sending my best wishes during these difficult times.

Every visit is excellent! It’s clear that Steve and his wife genuinely care about their customers. As of June 2020, they're still offering takeout during COVID. We usually order a couple of rolls along with some other dishes. We've tried and loved the baked mussels, sashimi plate, dragon roll, heart attack roll, pearl roll, dynamite, and several specials. Definitely give the koma (fish jaw) a try; it's delicious! I can’t wait to return, although my wallet may appreciate a little breather (it’s not pricey for the quality, but we tend to order a lot)!

Closed?!?! I've been visiting Steve and the ever changing crew since the early 2000's. Very very sad. I hope they regroup after the Covid issues subside.
