El Mejor Gourmet Restaurant

A bit off the beaten track being south of the periferico, but well worth the walk, chef/owner Charley serves reasonably priced absolutely delicious food and is a gracious host. We've dined here three times, twice with fairly large groups for specially catered dinners and once just the two of us for the seafood specials which are served each Friday. Wednesday is rib day and tho we have yet to try them, by report from friends they are also great. Don't miss this one!

El mejor Gourmet is a delicious restaurant where the food is authentic with a unique flair. Chef Charlie cooks with creative combinations of spices and ingredients to give well known oaxacan and other international dishes a new twist. The restaurant is clean and beautiful and the staff couldn't be more friendly! Highly recommend eating here!!!

It is located away from the historical center but well worth the short trip! From their huge breakfast buffet offered from 9 am to 1 pm, ( only 45 pesos) to their daily main specials featuring barbecue ribs, fresh seafood, salads and lighter fare as well. Daily main special meals range up to 70 pesos and normally are three courses soup to desert. Luncheon is Monday thru Saturday from 1 pm to 6 pm. Breakfast buffet is Monday thru Friday. Charlie is the owner and chef and speaks English and obviously Spanish. For parties of 10 or more you can reserve the restaurant for private dinners with your choice of menus. There are lots of tourist type restaurants in Oaxaca that serve typical cuisine, but if you enjoy more authentic fare then this would be a great choice !
