Contribuiți la feedbackBest soul food in Oakland, and I'm tempted to say best soul food anywhere in California! The Black Eyed Peas pizza with the biscuit crust was amazing every ingredient so fresh and delicious, and combined into an incredibly satisfying combo. I could have eaten 50 more bowls of the fried okra and charred collard greens. Warm and welcoming atmosphere, too. Highly recommend.
This was a new experience for sure. I was expecting cheese because uts a pizza. It had nice cheese but I'm not complaining it was delicious. We tried their Cajun seafood pizza. Huge shrimps that were seasoned to perfection, fried sausage, fresh tomatoes,, and a sauce that's like marinara but way better. It was spicy for me but managble. I have definitely found a new place to dine at and would recommend it to anyone just to try it out. We took a cance and I'm satisfied.
I was looking for a Black owned restaurant that was had options outside of traditional soul food/bbq and this was one of the first results. If you're coming from outside of Oakland, it's in the part of Oakland that's close to Berkeley and Emeryville. I came on 12/30 at 5 pm and there was no wait. They require proof of COVID 19 vaccination and ID verification. The restaurant is pretty spacious and the artwork on the wall is a great touch. The playlist is also on point very much Soul Train esque and goes with the theme of the restaurant. Our server was extremely friendly and attentive (can't remember their name but they had short curly hair). We were deciding between the Cajun Shrimp vs Hot Link Pizzas. After talking to the server, we went with the Cajun shrimp pizza. It was bomb. The pizza is more flatbread style. The biscuit crust has a little bit of sweetness and is pretty crumbly so at times it can be hard to eat with a fork and knife. Everything was seasoned wonderfully. The pickled peppers also gave it a nice kick. I do wish it had a little more green onion but I'm also an onion fiend. Our pizza accidentally came with cheese on it which we didn't mind. It didn't add much flavor to the pizza but added a layer of texture. I think it's plenty for 2 people because I was very full afterwards. There's ample street parking directly adjacent to the restaurant and in the nearby neighborhoods. Also there is a happy hour on Wednesdays from 5 7 pm.
So grateful to be sharing this review. After weeks of patiently waiting to give Soul Slice a try I finally made my way. And back to back two weeks in a row. My girl friends I met for dinner here on Friday night 8:30pm a week before the holidays. We assumed a crowd so made a reservation for 6. Def, wasn't needed. There was only one other party dining. The atmosphere is chill and inviting. Beautiful wall mural of the menu items and the musical selection was on point. Not many tables in dining room but I heard the patio offers more seating. The food though, man everything I've tasted EXCEEDED my expectations. I've blessed my palate w/ alot since we went family style... Smashed potato fried okra (FAVE , roasted Broccoli, soul salad (fried black eyed peas are a must , Veggie okra pizza Veggie fried jackfruit w/ black eyed pea pizza, catfish croquet (best I ever had like Drake said , and Mac cheese. The other ladies enjoyed the fried chicken pizza. The biscuit crust takes things to the next level. Cocktails are unique and delicious just like their menu but I always opt for Rose. Our same group 2 returned a week later for their Kwanzaa Umoja dinner. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves although it was a prefixed menu for $25 (win! the quality, flavors, and portions were on point. Skylar the server is friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. All the reasons I will be returning.
Pizza 1: DIY Chicken, Bacon, Onion with Mac Sauce, 2 cheeses and roasted garlic. Pizza 2: Vegan Hot Link Pizza. Sides: Black eyed peas, Broccoli , Cheesy grits, Fried okra Dessert: Peach cobbler let's start by saying the broccoli was INSANELY DELICIOUS! that was our favorite highlight of the meal. we came for the biscuit crust pizza and were blown away by the broccoli cooked with an OPEN FLAME! whoa! we'll be back for it. anyway, the pizzas were so good. i enjoyed the biscuit crust, it was very well put together but still had a pizza crust essence. the vegan links tasted like the real thing and added an amazing smokiness to the pizza. the chicken on the DIY pizza was delicious! the flavors were on point and we're so grateful for this experience! many blessings on this blossoming business
