Volcano roll is amazing really something special. Good sushi for a so so price. Overall really good ambiance too. Hopefully I come here more!

The food is clean and delicious have been eating here for 2 years now so sad to see it's ranking to be 2.9 . I recommend getting the spicy volcano sushi and crunchy chicken

Went as a family to celebrate a work anniversary and Umi Sushi was not a new place to me nor my family. Loved the sushi platter selection and had very friendly staff to assist us on the way. Just one incident to mention : We ordered the platter and found that certain pieces were too small to even count as a piece. Certain pieces were made just to make the number count and this made my family very mad. When approached to the staff about this issue, true enough, they took it very seriously and offered us a 10 roll serving, free of cost. I wish the management can look into those small details which can make a big difference in the serving. Let those sushi pieces be healthy and fat. Nobody loves a slim, paper thin piece !!! On the other hand, kudos to the staff who promised us a great service and helped us have a wonderful evening.

I tagged along with a colleague who had an appointment in Bay Avenue since I have never been there before. Upon reaching the area, we split up and I checked the various eating options in the area. As a major fan of Japanese cuisine, I was immediately drawn to Umi Sushi. The place was small with only the basic essential furnishing but there was no mistaking its Japanese aura. The staffs were polite and welcoming. The service here was again just the basic essentials. No one checked on how the food was in the middle of my meal. In a way this was good because they left me in peace to enjoy my meal. I decided to try one roll and a hot plate. For the roll, I chose the unagi and salmon with cream cheese and it was a good choice. Both the unagi and salmon (two favourites) were lovely but the bbq taste of the unagi was more pronounced. This bbq flavour was balanced by the slightly sour and salty cream cheese. At first, I wasn't sure of the cream cheese but it added texture to the dish and taste to its flavour profile. For the hot plate, I had the chicken teriyaki. It was different from what I was expecting. I had teriyaki glazed chicken in my head but what I was served was sizzling plate. This happens when you don't read the menu properly. The dish was ok. It was served sizzling hot and it had mild teriyaki flavour mainly from the sauce on the plate. The chicken strips were soft and juicy. To get more of the teriyaki flavour, I simply dipped the chicken in the sauce or poured some sauce in the rice. The dish went well with steamed rice. I think this place is promising, especially the maki offerings. There were so many items that I wanted to try but it would have been gluttony to do so. I will definitely be visiting this place more.
