Black Bull - Northumberland

Several people recommended this place including our taxi driver on the way to Morpeth. We only came in for drinks but had a good craic with the bar staff that served us. We had a good time and would certainly return. Bad spelling mistake on the sign upstairs which made us laugh (see photo).

It 's a nice place to have a drink and the staff behind the bar are friendly. We had the 5 plates for £25 and found it a bit hit and miss. There were no side plates given so it was akward to eat. The bar was busy otherwise I 'd have asked if they can provide some. The dirty fries consisted of a small portion of chips with ketchup, american mustard and a sprinkling of spring onion. I 'd call this chips with condiments rather than dirty fries . We also got the sausage and mash for our son which was like warm and the sausages seemed like they 'd been cooked and left for quite a while. The cripsy beef, bau buns and wings weren 't bad. It may have been because they were busy but I 'd say this is a place to drink but I 'd probably eat elsewhere.

Disappointing that none of the three staff we saw could pop to shops to get milk. We ordered two coffees but then were told that the bar had none left at 1pm. Three members of staff apologised and refunded cost of two coffees. Apparently it will be credited to my account in 24 -48 hours. With so many pubs struggling, I found it incredible that none could find time when bar was very quiet to go get some milk. Shops selling milk within 2 mins walk. I would have thought that businesses would be doing all they can to make a few pounds. Staff are always friendly and polite but really lost for words that such a simple thing could not have been fixed. We even offered to go to shops ourselves. Had bar been busy or if only one staff member on duty it could be explained but no one at bar amd in end all three staff members were behind till serving me.

When I entered today for a pint at going my dogs, there were water bowls for them and the beer was reasonable price and served by pleasant workers, the only complaining I have is not at the place, but some of the customers I hope to read this. a type was in the bar that was complaining about because the personal said they had to wait 30 minutes the staff was still polite for the tits long after most people had caught them and thrown them away. I hope you're on lego, and you don't realize your milk goes off until you've already poured it in your tee.
