Got balled out by my server and the manager after they refused to give me an actual receipt for my meal and claimed I had two beers with my food when I clearly had one. I paid $30 for a crappy burger, under-cooked fries and one beer, and the manager still chased out onto the street when I left; yelling after me that I was an assh*le. This place is for masochists only.
Had a confusing experience here. Was with a group of friends and ordered some food. Shortly after our food arrived someone started whaling on the drums. Apparently it was open mic night? My friends and I were the only people in the bar except for these guys who were messing around on the drums. We asked the bartender if they could tell them to stop but they seemed indifferent. We asked for our bill and left quickly.
Ciro's actually has new owners so the previous reviews are from the last owner and a lot has changed. Gary owns the pub and he is an extraordinary chef as well as a very lovely man. He can make a mean plate of pasta and probably the best chicken wings I've ever had. They also have a great selection of beer on tap if you just go for a drink or two. I've had my birthday there for the past two years and it's been perfect.
The first time I came to Ciro's, feels like the better part of a decade ago. It was called Ciros House of Beers or something like that and they had a huge list of like 100 beers to choose from. I remember from that list needing to ask for a few different things before finding something they actually had in stock... I also remember the flooring in the bar being very cool tile work... But aside from the tiling, didn't see any real upside to returning over all the years to come. Fast forward to this weekend when I stopped in again... The tilework is still there, but looks significantly more grimey then I remember it. But really, the entire interior of the place screams dive bar. I don't think any of the furniture or wall art was made in the last 20 years. The bathrooms stink. Like literally smell like a lifetime of urination without proper cleaning. Absolutely disgusting. Apparently this place serves food. I wouldn't dare try it. They certainly slimmed down their beer focus, and the highlight of the beer menu is now $7 pints of Beaus. Otherwise you can choose from some rather mediocre options like Sapporo, Wellington Brewery, and Okanagan Pale Ale, or some standard big brand domestic bottles. So you might be reading this and think it deserves a 1 star review... But the saving grace is that there is a patio out back. I feel like that has to be the only reason this place is still open as there really aren't many patios in this neck of the woods. And admittedly, the only reason I would ever come back here is if I was patio dependent in this neighbourhood. But I will personally be looking for better options before making this commitment.
Visited last night around 8PM A place with a backyard patio on Bloor AWESOME. Super chill atmosphere. The patio is a deck (the whole place looks like a house converted) with cool artsy decorational pieces everywhere, a loveseat swing, a dart board and lots of seating spread out nicely. Server was sassy and hilarious (Judith) she's a saleswoman for sure! I was in a pretty relaxed mood when I came in last night but would have otherwise been annoyed at being pushed to order seconds after walking in the door, at the payment counter, before being seated. I ordered the Hey Jude burger with salad. Meat was super juicy, the bun was from a supermarket and not fresh, kind squished. All veg were super fresh. Salad was kale with some kind of delicious seasoning on it. Partner ordered the BBC burger (Bacon Blue Cheese) and they forgot the blue cheese... Judith ran it back with good cheer and came out to woefully share that the kitchen was out of blue cheese and didn't even tell her so she had the burger redone with his share of cheeses and he loved it. He got their house chips (crumple style on the juicy side) with a dill dip. They also sent out shrimp chips and more chips (fries) on the house to make up for the blue cheese mistake. Partner ordered a whiskey sour that he loved. I had her surprise me and she delivered with a creamsicle (a sure winner since one of my favorite drinks is the Orange Bacardi Breezer). So the server was awesome (she works M F, 4 close), food came out quick and was pretty good BUT the bill (with a 10% discount, again, to make up for the blue cheese) was $40ish (would have been around $45) which seems like a lot to me for two burgers and drinks and they're definitely not gourmet burgers. Really solid experience but I would rather go try some place new than return.
