What's great? The staff are friendly, cool and genuinly trying to get it right.
I went there with the family and we had pizza and pasta. The food was fine not special but good hearty modern Italian food. My prawn and chorizo pizza was good, chorizo was not very spicy but was tasty. The vegana pizza also good. But we had to ask to get menus after about 10 minutes. The restaurants not that big. With a little bit of management and training it could be so much better.
First of all, I have been a somewhat regular customer since the opening of the establishment. Since my first visit (which was actually quite pleasant) the quality has been going downhill.. fast, despite (from what I understand) changing ownership several times. I do enjoy supporting my local restaurants and make an effort to get out often, however despite the many chances I have given, I cannot bear the food. The food: Most pizza is tasteless to the point that salt and pepper on cardboard would seem better seasoned. The pasta's are again, tasteless and I have noticed other customers with disgruntled expressions pushing their food around. Garlic bread is actually reasonably enjoyable when it isn't burnt, however this rare. The service does try and often the younger members of staff are the ones whom put in the most effort. Oh and also the wine list is basically non existent despite the local Porters up the road.I'll be heading to Castlecrag next time I need a tolerable Italian restaurant.
We've given our local restaurant several '2nd' chances over the past year and a half, but tonight sealed it for us - we're not going back in its current form. Burnt pizza bases, soggy, tasteless topping plus confusing menu. A few years ago it was in it's prime (different owner and staff) now it's more about the home deliveries than what's going on in the restaurant. At least they got rid of the picture of Nonna on the front sign however, the attempt to be organic and accommodating of all people with allergies/special requirements will be lost on many still 'healthy' people who want some good old fashioned Italian pasta and pizza (why does every restaurant feel it has to conform with the times?). Please conduct some marketing - don't be proud - ask what customers would like to see on the menu and on the premises! Thankfully Willoughby has hugely successful dining options shame Tarboosh has moved to Crows Nest though...
