Whitman House - North Truro

Very disappointing dinner. We have been visiting the Whitman House for many years and won't be returning. I ordered blackened tuna that the menu describes as tasting best rare. I always eat tuna rare, so naturally that's how I ordered it. The tuna was was so well done you couldn't even tell it was tuna. Another person in our party ordered a baked seafood assortment that managed to be both under and over cooked. The scallops and shrimp were so over cooked they no longer tasted like anything and the scrod was almost raw. The staff didn't seem like they wanted to be there which just added to the underwhelming experience.

Clam chowder was okay, it lacked flavor and I didn 't actually have any pieces of clam. The homemade dressings for the salads are delicious. The salad consisted of lettuce, tomato, onion, carrot, squash and zucchini. I had never actually eaten raw squash or zucchini but after giving it a try I now know I would prefer cucumbers. It was just odd. The home made bread was good, served with whipped butter. I ordered the shrimp scampi and I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of shrimp in the dish. It was very tasty and I would absolutely recommend it. The portion was smaller than I had expected but after the soup, salad and bread I needed to take home my leftovers. The price for the entree was reasonable, between $15-$18. I got the key lime pie for dessert. I don 't recommend it. I have never had key lime pie on a chocolate crust, if I get the chance to go back I will try something else for dessert. It tasted fine, just not the best dessert I have ever had. I cannot remember our waitresses name, the receipt says H She was a very sweet girl, patient and service orientated. The dining room began to fill up and I could tell she was overwhelmed. It took a ridiculously long time to get our check, though no fault of the server. She had 5 tables at various stages in their meals. Understaffed possibly? In conclusion, I will return, overall a good meal for a good price.

The absolute best clam chowder I have ever had STRONG statement but true lb stuffed lobster with a healthy amount of shrimp and scallops for 40$ we had an Awesome server named Andrea if you are in this area you would be a fool not to stop here

One caveat to this review, we attended a 30th wedding aniversary party here on a Thursday night and they did a wonderful job of accomdating a large group. We only had appetizers which were ok. They had 2 servers waiting on us for drinks and they did a great job keeping a cold one in everyone's hands. The room they had for us was perfect and I really like the decor the place, very homey! I can't speak for the dinner quality as we didn't have entrees but everything else worked out very nicely!

We had an amazing dinner tonight at the Whitman House! Both my husband and I ordered the prime rib and shrimp combo platter, and it exceeded our expectations! A big thank you to Andrea for her excellent service!
