It reminded me of the standard of food in Goa, where I'll be visiting in a month. I have a vegetable Madras to try next and I'm looking forward to it. The food here is great.
My husband and I picked this restaurant because of their reviews. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Portishead. The staff were very welcoming as soon as we arrived. Seated us at a lovely table which I had called ahead and booked. It was the nicest Indian restaurant we had been in. Very clean modern and spacious. We ordered Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Dopiaza, Pilau rice and a garlic naan. Drinks 2 pints of Cobra lager and 2 large glasses of Rose Zinfandel wine. Amazing price under £42. The food was excellent. Lamb melted in your mouth. Chicken tikka was just right. So if you want a great curry definitely pay this restaurant a visit.
I have visited this restaurant many times before, however, I was very disappointed with my experience tonight. My king prawn butterfly was overcooked and dry, making it inedible. The chicken Dhansak that followed seemed to have been reheated from the previous bank holiday weekend, as it was extremely dry with no moisture, typical of a reheated dish. When I called to express my dissatisfaction, the gentleman I spoke to did not deny that the dish had been reheated and mentioned the challenge of heating the butterfly dish properly in the microwave. Although the other two meals we ordered were satisfactory, my own evening was ruined by the poor quality of my meal. If I choose to return, I will make it clear that I do not want any dry or overcooked/reheated food. If this issue occurs again, I will no longer patronize this restaurant after years of being a customer for both dining in and home delivery.
This is our second visit to this restaurant, and both times have been very enjoyable. My partner and I prefer drier curries, so I chose the tandoori mixed grill and my partner had the chicken shaslik. The curries were delicious and perfectly cooked. The mushroom rice, naan, and popadom starters were also excellent. The service was attentive without being overbearing. This restaurant is a hidden gem in the center of Portishead.
Starters were okay, but I can’t get my head around the feeling that the sauce in my dish was based on a tin of tomato soup? The onion rings were a bizarre addition to a lamb dish to have in an Indian restaurant. The mango chutney with the popadoms was more like a jam. I wouldn’t visit again.
