We visited the Kings Head for our Sunday dinner and we loved it! Very warm and friendly atmosphere. Very fast service, the food was amazing and very generous portions. The manager Adam and Katie were very friendly and very attentive very professional. Thank you for a wonderful evening.
I booked this restaurant after visiting many times before in spring/summer this year and last year. We were attending a show on the pier for my friends birthday, so booked here for dinner. WHAT A MISTAKE!! Arrived for our 530pm booking at 525pm, and the table wasn't ready, it was dirty and needed cleaning. Quickly resolved and we sat down to look at the menu Order 3 x Mozzarella sticks and 1 x Stilton Garlic Mushrooms for starters, waited quite a while for them, and when they arrived the mozzarella sticks were all cold, and my mushrooms were all dried up, no sauce and the sourdough was so dry and crusty i couldn't even get my fork into it! I called the manager (Adam) over, he apologised and said he would get the chef to redo them. They came out, the mushrooms were better and the mozzarella sticks were warm, looked like they had been refried. The main courses came out, the hunters chicken was supposed to be with sweet pot fries, my husbands burger was ok, but chips had definitely been recooked. Sausage and mash was hot and ok, so was the mixed grill although fried egg was broken and over cooked. No one bought any sauces over, and we collected our own cutlery from the station by the door. The hunters chicken got taken back into the kitchen, and appeared about 6 minutes later with extra melted cheese on the top, and the sweet pot fries as we ordered. My friend wanted mustard for his steak on his mixed grill, so used the one that was on display. 3/4 of the way through his meal, I noticed that the Heinz HOT mustard was 12 MONTHS OUT OF DATE! My friends Hunters Chicken was inedible, and tasted weird, like a strong plastic taste, and it didn't smell right We were disgusted about this and asked to see the manager again! He came over, didnt really get what we were trying to say about a product being out in the customer area that was a year out of date, I asked for head office address, which whe went off upstairs to obtain. He came back after about 10 minutes with an email address, that looked like the email address of the pub! We then checked another 2 bottles of Heinz hot mustard that were on customer display these were only 2 MONTHS OUT OF DATE! When he returned he said that they had been taken over on Tuesday last week, I explained that that shouldn't be an excuse for poor standards of food hygiene and I was appalled that there wasn't a procedure in place to ensure that out of date products werent being checked regularly by the staff. I dred to think what the standards in the kitchen must be like, and who is checking the dates on the food that is being served to the public! We paid for our drinks and left hungry, grabs some chips on the way to the theatre not quite the birthday meal out for my friend that I expected! Toilets are als quite filthy, lack of soap and door locks
The restaurant had a nice, laid-back atmosphere. We enjoyed dinner and drinks, finding the food to be delicious, fresh, and affordable. The onion rings were particularly good and the rump steak was so tender it hardly required a knife.
It is clear that this restaurant has new management as the quality of the Sunday lunch was disappointing. I ordered the roast chicken but had to send it back twice because it appeared undercooked. The manager explained that it had only been probed to 64c instead of the required 75c, so I decided to try the vegetarian option instead. However, this dish was also disappointing with gravy covering everything, frozen roast potatoes, strange-tasting carrots, bland cabbage, store-bought yorkshire puddings, and overly firm peas. Overall, I couldn't finish my meal.
