We spent two nights at this hotel as part of our silver wedding anniversary celebration. Unfortunately, we had to leave on the morning of our anniversary because the restaurant was not open every evening, and then it was closed due to covid. I had inquired about getting a taxi to take us to a restaurant, but was told there were no decent cab services in town. Despite this setback, we had a lovely stay in the Wheat Chamber, a cozy room with beautiful decor, a large comfortable bed, and nice views from the windows. The shower room was small and oddly shaped, but the shower was efficient and the towels were lovely. Breakfast was served in the room due to covid, but there were some errors, particularly on the second morning. The staff were apologetic and tried to correct the mistakes. One evening, we had dinner arranged by the staff with a bespoke dining service, which was of good quality and served at the right temperature. However, dining in the lounge was awkward as we were the only guests, and there was very little atmosphere. Parking was limited, and there seemed to be no dedicated parking for hotel guests. Despite these issues, the hotel followed social distancing guidelines well, and we felt safe during our stay. Overall, staying in the main windmill was worth it for the interesting and quirky round rooms. My long-held desire to stay here was fulfilled and it did not disappoint.
The weather was nice, and although it was crowded, I enjoyed the restaurant and there were some delicious items to try and scenic walks to enjoy.
Great little hotel and self catering cottages in a sleepy Norfolk village. Lovely views of the river and across the marshes to the sea. We stayed in one of the self catering cottages. It was very stylishly converted, comfy bed and a cosy room with...pretty much everything you needed. My one complaint would be that the room would have been greatly improved for us with the addition of a comfortable sofa or chairs. The chairs supplied were extremely uncomfortable. The weather was bad and few places were open due to the pandemic so we had to spend the evening in the cottage and one afternoon and we could just not find a way to sit comfortably. Also would have been nice if we could have used the wood burner as I was cold! Otherwise it was friendly and well located and I would recommend.
Lovely setting. Very clean and well appointed with helpful friendly staff and overall great value. Beautiful lawn at the back overlooking the river.
