Contribuiți la feedbackRoom no. 3 was spacious and nicely decorated. The bathroom is small, but adequate. It’s modern and there is a window that opens. The beds were good and it was comfortable. We stayed 3 nights. I have no complaints about the room. I do have issues with lack of management. Because some places provide housekeeping and some don’t, while we were having dinner, I asked in the pub. There was no “official” manager with whom to check in, greet, or ask a question, I was told there was housekeeping—beds made, trash emptied. After a long day we discovered there had been no tidying up. In the morning, the laundry person told me that they did not offer housekeeping. If I needed soap or towels I could have them. At breakfast day 2 we were told we had not completed our breakfast order. I replied we had not received a breakfast form for for day 1, day 2, (or day 3). Chef decided we didn’t need one. Cold breakfast was packaged Kellogg products. Hot breakfasts were cooked to order and well done. There was never fresh fruit. My most serious issue occurred at 9:30am on day 2 in the parking lot when some staff member took it upon themself to notify the manager that someone was loitering. I was standing inside the door to the pub while my partner was looking for a dear friend to pick us up. A woman with a dog showed up wanting information. It ended well enough, but in hindsight it was intimidating. Finally, while the room was clean, the grounds by the pub and the room were covered with cigarette butts. It is gross. Spiders have decorated all the light fixtures by room doors.
Popped in on Saturday to grab some lunch. Having eaten here many a time I was looking forward to a nice meal. Sadly our lunch was not meant to be. My friend ordered a ham and mustard sandwhich, the bread was dry and stale, and swimming in mustard. The chips were barely warm and tasted off. When I asked for Gluten Free option's I was told there weren't any the manager behind the bar was rude and dismissive. Sadly I won't be returning.
Was looking for somewhere around Meldreth to take a lady out for her 91st birthday, The lunchtime menu at the British Queen was not really suitable for this lady, when asked if instead an afternoon tea could be possible this was no problem for the staff at this pub. What an effort was made for this lady, not only a superb afternoon tea provided on a beautifully laid table but also a birthday card, present and celebration balloon. Thank you Sue Daisy you made her day
We joined our friends on the evening before their wedding. 14 people had a great meal. We really enjoyed our meal. And the service was excellent. And very good value for money. Thank you for looking after us all so well.
Up until 2019, this was a SUPERB pub. On the weekends, people would play Pétanque on a purpose built sand pit whilst dog walkers would come and go across the vast green behind the pub that backs onto the sparkling river Mel. The feel was pure bucolic bliss ordinary wooden benches freely strewn across the lawns in an unfussy way. Now... 2 huge marquees now permanently sit behind the pub, blocking the view down to the river (which has been cut off by a locked gate and wire). The Pétanque arena has been closed and signs everywhere say 'no trespassing '. Gone is the lovely, relaxed vibe. To add salt to the wound, those generic rocks in a cage walls have been built and now encapsulate a tiny, restricted 'garden ' that might be found anywhere in a London or other metropolitan gastro pub. Inside, the bar is diminished. Gone are the old, rustic tables and settles. Instead, a gaudy glass door, completely at odds with the old, traditional feel, now dominates the bar area like a bloated zircon on a fine finger. The walls, now painted and caked with every pastel colour known to man, complete the picture of a pub that has lost its way in the search for money. I 'm not saying this is now a bad pub; it has just become like 'every other ' pub. Another one has gone.
