Located on the second floor of a multi-functional building that also houses the prison's learning centre, it was originally intended for prison staff and visitors but is now open to the general public from 10 to 3 (kitchen closes at 2). The menu offers simple food such as jackets and baguettes, which is satisfactory. The service was provided by two diligent staff members, with no inmates in sight and no "HMP" stencil on the cappuccino, as mentioned in a previous post. Despite the few reminders of the prison in the form of branded bags, mugs, and aprons, the atmosphere allows you to almost forget where you are. The cafe supports the rehabilitation of prisoners, making it a worthy cause to support if you are in the area and in need of a no-fuss lunch.
We attempted to visit about a year before lockdown but it was staff holiday time. We were buying water butts from a business nearby. The cafe was quiet, the woman in charge was friendly, patient with our indecisiveness, and helpful. We had all day breakfasts and left absolutely stuffed . Food was hot, well presented and clearly cooked to order. Although we were there up until closing time we did not feel hurried. We 'll almost certainly go again. Have already been recommending this cafe to friends.
Was amazing. The food was delicious and Kevin are waiter was just so lovely and kind. He was so helpful and told us all about the charity. We can’t wait to come back!
Today, three of us went for a motorcycle ride and decided to stop at the Jailhouse Cafe for a late breakfast. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the cafe was clean and cozy, and the food was delicious, cooked to perfection, and reasonably priced. We will definitely be returning and thank you for such an enjoyable breakfast experience.
Friendly service, ample parking. Comfy seating area, relaxed atmosphere. Will return again. I liked the merchandise too.
