La Belle Étoile - Niort

Quality establishment, rural setting along the Sèvre Niortaise. I recommend !

The setting of this restaurant is very beautiful, the bar with its terrace allows you to have a cocktail before sitting at the table. When we came to the table, everything was prepared and we had already taken our order in advance at the bar to anticipate everything. I had the duck tortelli as a starter, which was very tasty and you could tell that everything was homemade. My fiancée took the razor clams, which were good but the abundant raw vegetables unfortunately took over everything else. The main downside was: we both had the lamb, which came in the form of chops and breast. The ribs were very good, although there was not much to eat, but the brisket was inedible for me. I spent 5 minutes (literally) chewing my first bite, before giving up. The entire brisket was extremely rubbery, and there was nothing to be gained from it. It’s regrettable, at almost €40 a dish, to eat two small pieces of chops and asparagus. When you come out with a bill of €175, you expect that everything served will be perfect, and that the quality of the products served will match the price. When explaining the problem, we received an apology but no commercial gesture. This does not detract from the quality of the service, the servers were very attentive, but it is still a big negative point.

We ate there on a Saturday lunchtime with friends. This is THE restaurant (supposedly) to do on the banks of the Sèvre in Niort. Well...... DISAPPOINTMENT! that's what we'll say. Ok, a friendly welcome and a beautiful presentation of the dishes. On the other hand, a very disappointing quality/quantity-price ratio. Already no menu...everything is a la carte and therefore the prices that go with it. Good but nothing exceptional. Quantity in “gastro” style plates. 3 asparagus cut lengthwise or 3 knives in the middle of the plate....Same for fish dishes which once removed from its bones you only have the value of a tablespoon of flesh left, the cheese presented in a round on a plate. The decor of the toilets is worthy of a national seaside restaurant (coarse paint and sticky floors) The terrace is not great, the garden furniture made with old recycled pallets, the underside of the tables covered with cobwebs, an outdoor garland with a total disappointment. Frankly, there are much better options in Niort at these prices!
