Contribuiți la feedbackThis restaurant is by far the best Gungahlin has to offer. Every time I eat here, it is always amazing food and fantastic attentive service. The desserts are a must! Especially the Banana Parfait. Their house made dips and breads are delicious also.
Went to Green Herring on a Friday night. We had a great time, the menu had plenty of good options and the servings were reasonably sized and very tasty. Service was excellent, the waiter was the right amount of attentive, knew the menu inside out and wasn't pushy. It is lovely inside the restaurant, with open fires and a cosy ambience. Would definitely go again.
My husband and I went to Green Herring this evening on a date night while visiting Canberra. While the restaurant itself is cosy and historic, the food was terrible. We had the prawns for entree, they were overcooked and the sauce was lackluster. I had the goats cheese ravioli for main. I am not sure there was any goats cheese in them and the pasta was gluey. My husband had the beef, it was overcooked, undersized and for all the four condiments could taste nothing but garlic. The food is very expensive and the portions are small. It's a shame because you can tell the staff care and are trying really hard to make it a good experience. Time for a new chef! Would not recommend unless the food changed.We have retreated home to fill up on what is left in our cupboard: pork crackling chips *sigh* - date night over.
Tucked away in an unprepossessing 1860's off-street slab hut is a hidden gem. The warmth of the huge open fire on entry reflects the total atmosphere. The structure of the building absorbs sound instead of echoing so background noise is minimal making conversation comfortable. The owner circulates and chats, but remains totally alert to the activity in the restaurant. The menu is not extensive (5 entrees, 6 mains with 3 sides and 5 desserts) but very varied. And the food, it's amazing; fairly simple but in interesting and tasty combinations, beautifully cooked and presented. An extensive Beverage menu. Prices are quite reasonable. The staff are very well trained but relaxed and friendly.We visited with friends, and it was one of the most enjoyable dining experiences I've had in a long time.Gluten=free choices were extensive.
I dined on Fri, 23rd Jun 2017 with my parents. The atmosphere is absolutely amazing. A cosy open fire welcomed us as soon as we walked in the door which was a welcomed relief from the cold.The service was second to none. The owner was friendly, personal and professional.We had some bread and dips for the entree. The bread was delicious and the dips weren't too flavoursome but we did enjoy it.We had barramundi, chicken and venison as our mains. ( priced between $32 and $38)We all agreed that it was cooked to perfection but it was just way too bland for our liking. Our highlight was broccoli, lemon and almonds ($9) which was our side dish. We then had a dessert share platter for 2 for 4 of us.$32 (we had someone drop by just before dessert). We are not big eaters so thought the platter would be enough for all four and it certainly was. We didn't finish it. The downside though was nothing on the dessert platter was a stand out and they all were quite bland except for the peppermint ice cream.A couple of downsides were: small selections of wine by the glass. Most of the good ones you had to buy a bottle.A couple near us came in after us and got served after us yet received their breads before us and also their mains before us.It was 30 mins from ordering until we got our breads and over an hour after that until we got our mains! Don't go here if you want a quick meal, go there for a relaxing, friendly evening like we did.We all decided we would go back soon to see if it was an off night.
