I went to Johns. We're going to fish and chips. The service was fast at Getgo, but once the food was delivered....no service. Our server was busy doing their pre-cleaning instead of taking care of customers. Only 2 tables in the restaurant and 1 1/2 hours to close, had to stand up and another server received spices for our meals and beverage refills. With COVID closures and now open again you would think service would be top priority.
We enjoyed our visit to the back room 12 of us. The waitress was very familiar with the menu. Our meals were very good.
Ging together with my family tonight when we heard good things. We were very disappointed at our meals. We started with garlic bread as an appetizer. Looks like it was done on one or two hotdog backs, kind of weird for a restaurant... but that wasn't the problem. It was barely tormented and not everything. We paid $2 extra to get it with cheese. For this we have 2 pieces of cut, processed cheese. I had one of their daily specials, Pierogis. It was offered either with soup or juice. The price was listed as $12.95. You loaded $1.50 for the juice. I also got $1 for extra acidic cream, but was not told that it came to a fee. They were fried (as desired), but the fat was drained from them and they were limp. They were tasteless. My parents both ordered the Weiner schnitzel. I think there were no spices at all. It was unbelievable. We all had our meals and were not offered any refills at all. Otherwise the staff was friendly. The decor was out of date. The leather on the seats was cracked, the furniture smelled like an old smoke. We had to clean garbage from the last mosquitoes. That might not be so much if the food was good. There was a strange smell when leaving the restaurant. They had access to the parking lot at the back of the restaurant with a ramp to enter. Unfortunately, if you do not have a wheelchair, this is a very long walk for people with accessibility problems. This experience cost us $70. I would definitely not recommend this restaurant.
We frequently visit this restaurant in the Niagara area that has been open for a long time. Some people have criticized the outdated decor, but we have never found it to be dirty. The food is consistently good, especially the pies, which are delicious and served in generous portions at a reasonable price. Despite the outdated decor, this is a great spot for a decent meal, and it tends to be busy with satisfied customers. Those expecting a fancy restaurant with upscale decor may be disappointed, but it's unfair to critique the establishment solely on its appearance. Some reviews seem to have unrealistic expectations, much like criticizing a high-end restaurant for not serving cheap burgers or for having pricey burgers due to the decor costs.
