Contribuiți la feedbackI tried Nepalese cuisine for the first time at this restaurant and was blown away. The flavors were bold and the dishes were packed with delicious herbs and spices. This hidden gem in Newtown is a must-try!
After attending the Sydney Film Festival and watching Jennifer Peedom's stunning documentary Sherpa (2014), I paid a visit to Sherpa Kitchen in Newtown with a newfound appreciation. Rather than just a name for those who carry goods, Sherpa refers to an ethnic group residing in the Himalayas, a region that spans Nepal, Tibet, India, and Bhutan. This restaurant, situated on bustling King Street, showcases the Sherpa culture with a mural depicting snow-covered peaks along one wall and images from Nepal on the opposing orange wall. The decor includes vibrant traditional clothing, religious symbols such as prayer wheels, Buddha, and Ganesh, as well as gold tablecloths and bright red chairs, creating a cheerful atmosphere. The menu at Sherpa Kitchen does not include beef or lamb due to religious influences, but the delicious goat dishes more than make up for their absence. One must-try dish is the Special Khasi Ko Taas for $15.99, a signature item that...
The food at this restaurant is absolutely amazing. Despite some initial hesitation from reading reviews, we ended up having a fantastic experience. The service was top-notch with just one waitress who was efficient and friendly. Our guests from Singapore were very impressed with the quality of the food.
Sherpa Kitchen is a Nepalese restaurant located on King St in Newtown. It's been in Newtown for some time but the current owner has been there for about 18 months. Matt and I head here for a nice lunch. . There's gorgeous art work on the side of all things Nepalese that catch my eye. As it's a warm Saturday, I'm happy that there are a series of lunch specials. The lunch specials come with a choice of soft drink as well. I'm no expert in Nepalese cuisine but Matt is eager to try authentic Nepalese food.
4 of us went to this restaurant on a voucher so got to try a lot of dishes and I would say all were of a high standard. The momos are good as was the chicken sekuwa. Am not usually one for too much vegetarian but the pakoda was nice and not oily at all, and to finish the entrees we had an ordinary sounding dish called potato chop which was delicious. Loved the dosai. For main we had palak paneer (not my fave but nice enough), veggie korma tasty, butter chicken also tasty and the stand out being the goat. Nicest goat curry I've had with good tender meat and taste. Service was great but there were not a lot of customers and our girl was helpful with suggestions. Would like to go back and try other dishes also. This is a good place for people that don't like too spicy a meal and the ones that want some flavour.
