C9 Chocolate Gelato- Newtown

Quite disappointed with this place. Made a booking online as I assumed this place was trying to comply with COVID safe measures and on arrival I advised the staff that I had made a booking for 2 and they just stood there completely clueless. Looked around at each other as if I wasn’t speaking English or something. By the time they gathered their thoughts they gave us a menu and told us to order before taking a seat. Didn’t require us to check in or anything. And when it came to the ordering, the service simply became non existent. My partner has a nut allergy and we enquired to see what flavours contained nuts and the lady provides a chart with the list of the nutritional information of each flavour. Except, half the available flavours on display weren’t even on this chart and when asked about said flavours (the lotus biscoff flavour to be precise) the lady simply said “it’s better to just go with the sorbet” . I understand that it’s always better to err on the side of caution, but not even make an effort to provide information about a product or make some enquiries about whether a certain product contains nuts is quite rude and discriminatory against people who have dietary restrictions. My partner is able to have the biscoff biscuits and they certainly do not contain nuts, so for the staff to be so dismissive is just ridiculous. Further to that, I was mid way into ordering given the 4 step process on the menu and the lady just walks off. I am simply astounded at the lack of service this place provides and the gelato simply is not good enough to justify such a poor treatment of its customers. The flavours are mediocre at best and they certainly don’t create flavours like Messina does. They simply mix in some biscuits and call it a “biscoff ice cream flavour”. In future, just go spend 10$ on a pack of ice cream from the supermarket and the experience would be much more pleasant than having a meal here.

The hazelnut ice cream was too sweet , the cream cheese strawberry ice cream did not have much cheese and the crepe was very dry and hard

We ordered fondue and Chocolate lava. Both were very good. The pistachio ice cream was superb. I recommend C9 chocolates to dessert lovers.

I had a great time trying out a few pancake stacks at this restaurant with my kids. The pancakes came with a choice of chocolate sauce and ice cream, so we opted for crème brûlée on one stack and macadamia and caramel on the other. The pancakes themselves were a bit simple, not as thick and fluffy as we had hoped. They were nicely presented though, with a generous scoop of ice cream, plenty of chocolate sauce, and fruit between the layers. We used a Groupon deal, which made it a good deal, but the regular prices seemed a bit high.
