Coombe Cellars - Newton Abbot

Welcomed with a smile and led to a table with a view. Excellent service without pressure for drinks and food. A meal Cod chips was above average in quality, three meals half chickens only roughly scratched in average. The price for wine is extorted. Two of them settled for a pinch of beer, one drank Diet Coke and the other tap water only.

After a disturbing start as they could not find my reservation, but I had a confirmation email and text the staff did not make it a big deal and made us very comfortable and welcome as it was not only New Year but my partner's birthday! Eat fantastic, view around beautiful and staff beautiful! Thank you and will definitely visit again in summer as I live, but for the first time

Staff were very good, but not enough staff for the number of tables. Disappointed that Scallops weren't in the menu when they ran out. Main courses disappointing. I had the salmon and mixed broccoli, sapphire and spinach when the plate arrived, it was swimming in water, as the vegetables were not properly drained, even worse they were cold. Of course, only the salmon fillet was eaten. The fish and my husband's chips were worse. The chips looked and tasted as if they had been fried a few times, but the fish looked anaemic and boiled with soggy batter. The fish also had a gray note, not appealing. Not a good food that is a shame, as Coombe Cellars was always good!

We are regulars at Coombe Cellars and we are never disappointed, having lunch overlooking the river is lovely. I just wish that they had not discontinued the small version of my favourite meal as the large version is too much for me and I hate to waste it. We older people don't have big appetites as a rule. This is the only disappointing thing about this venue.
