Hayashi Sushi Grill - Newport News

We dined at a private table instead of the hibachi grill. The menu had a nice variety of sushi, appetizers, and entrees. The food was delicious; the beef was very tender and juicy. Our waiter was prompt and friendly. My only complaint was the lights; I don't like dark restaurants. I know they were trying to create a certain type of ambiance, but I prefer to be able to see my food without squinting.

The decor and location of this restaurant was great. The food and service didn't live up to the decor and location. We were a party of three and the only ones in the hibachi area. The server didn't seem to know the menu. It took a very long time to receive our food and for the chef to come out to cook our food. Food was lacking seasoning and flavor. We have had much better service and quality of food and taste at other Japanese Steakhouse.

Expect to pay $40-50 per person when all added up. I am not sure the the good food and okay service was worth that much.

Great sushi variety, great quality, talented sushi chefs. Interesting and unusual starters.
