White Horse Tavern - Newport

We had a fantastic dining experience with a delicious meal and the perfect private table tucked away in a corner with a stunning view of the sunset!

For starters, my wife had a Caesar salad and I had the Rhode Island chowder. The Caesar salad was one of the best we've ever had, despite not being prepared table side. The clear broth chowder, filled with clams, potatoes, celery, and a hint of bacon, was served at the perfect temperature. For our main courses, my wife had the Black Island swordfish with another glass of Pinot Grigio, while I had the beef Wellington cooked to a perfect medium, paired with a glass of Cabernet. Both dishes were exceptional. We shared a warm bread pudding for dessert, which was a nice ending to our meal. I do need to mention a couple of things. My $24 Manhattan, ordered on the rocks, was disappointing. For a high-quality restaurant like the White Horse Tavern, a large ice cube would have been preferable. The overcrowded rocks glass diluted the drink, making it difficult to taste the quality of the vermouth used. The Luxardo cherry garnish was slightly crushed and placed on a plain toothpick. I apologize for being particular about my drinks, but Manhattan enthusiasts will understand where I'm coming from. Overall, the food and service were excellent, and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience.

I had one of the best beef Wellingtons I've ever had at this restaurant. It was cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious!
