Salt Hill Pub Shanty Newbury Nh

I absolutely love the Pub in Newport. Unfortunately, none of the other restaurants I have tried so far seem to compare. I'm not sure why that is. I ordered the Fish n Chips, which should have been a hit, right? The fish was tasty, but the batter left something to be desired. It seemed like the fryer temperature may have been too low, resulting in soggy fries as well. The cole slaw was particularly disappointing. It had a strange flavor that I couldn't quite place. The iced tea came in a bottle, which was a bit of a letdown. I was already over $25 into my meal, so I decided not to ask about refills.

The food and drinks at this restaurant were fantastic. It was our first visit and the restaurant was busy, but luckily I had made a reservation. We were seated outside and the staff was friendly. The interior of the restaurant had a stylish bar. The website was not user-friendly, so I ended up taking pictures of the menu.

The restaurant is not exactly an authentic Irish pub as expected, as they played rap music and had a Bud Light banner displayed. However, they did offer Guinness, although it may have been the only stout on the menu. The overall atmosphere was definitely more Americanized. Despite this, the Irish pie was delicious and I also enjoyed their Shanty style poutine.

This place is hit or miss for us.. we've had a couple maybe 2 or 3 ok meals. Lately seems to be less pleasant. Lots of sour mixer drinks rather than a nice coctail.. an some of the foods such as the spinach dip was clearly frozen or cheap cream cheese and tasted very rancid.. hard saying not knowing but we liked it much better in past experiences..

I really love the Pub in Newport. Sadly, none of the others (so far) seem to measure up. I don’t understand why, but there it is. Got the Fish n Chips, which should be a slam dunk, right? The fish was good. The batter? Not so much. It might be a function of the fryer temp being too low. It would explain the soggy fries, too. The cole slaw was amazingly annoying. I wish I could say it was old and fermenting. But, I really believe they were shooting for that flavor. Sigh. The iced tea came in a bottle. Ugh. Does that mean you have to pay for a refill? I was already more than $25 into this meal, so I wasn’t going to find out…
