Captain Jake's - Newburgh

The restaurant offers a fantastic view of the Hudson River and boasts an extensive fish menu. However, I opted for the filet mignon, which was delicious. My colleagues seemed to really enjoy the oysters. The service was great and overall, it was a very enjoyable experience.

We ordered drinks, appetizers, and entrees, including a shared pizza as an appetizer. Our drinks arrived promptly and the appetizers came out, but the pizza and two entrees were missing. After a 10-minute wait, we inquired about the pizza and were told it would be another 10 minutes. In the meantime, our glasses were empty but no one came to refill them. Finally, the pizza arrived 30-40 minutes later, along with our second round of drinks and entrees, which were very good. Throughout the meal, our waitress did not check on us, and when we ordered desserts, they came out with a cup of coffee that had grounds in it. The owner, who had been making excuses about short staffing, blamed us for any issues that arose. The bill came with a 20% tip (automatic for parties over 6) and could not be adjusted. The disrespectful attitude shown by the owner and staff, including snide remarks and gossiping about us, was unprofessional and disappointing. Despite the high cost of our meal (over $700), we will not be returning to Captain Jake's and will take our business elsewhere. Treating customers in such a scandalous and unacceptable manner is not how a restaurant should operate.

We had dinner at this restaurant at 4 o'clock in the evening. The experience started off well - our waitress was friendly and our drinks arrived quickly. However, things took a turn for the worse. Some of our appetizers were delayed and we had to ask multiple times before they finally arrived. We also had to ask several times for a second round of drinks and refills on our water. The main course was served after a long wait, and when we ordered dessert, the coffee was not up to standard. Our bill was adjusted for the coffee and one dessert, but not for the delayed appetizer. When we requested to speak to the manager, she came out with an aggressive attitude and only compensated for the pizza. It wasn't just the compensation that bothered us, but the disrespectful way in which the manager spoke to us. Even after she left, we overheard her criticizing us to her staff. This unprofessional behavior is unacceptable for a restaurant that we once enjoyed for its food and atmosphere. As a result of this experience, we will not be returning to spend more money at this restaurant.

At the beginning we were greeted by a warm host who sat up with a fantastic view of the hudson river on a beautiful sunny day. then we met our blonde waitress who didn't seem to know what a smile was. when I ordered the sole francaise, I have correctly pronounced Fran-says the waitress (that she incorrectly corrected me) says, it is extremely french chays I replied, no, it is pronounced Fran-Says she rolls her eyes wrong says again, it is extremely french chays at this point should they have realized that even if a customer tries to tip something wrong, which I was not starting, it is not during the meal it was not much better from her (forget about, ignoring, more eye-rolling, etc. but I know that this is not a reflection of all the staff since I had eaten there before had wonderful service of hostes, bar staff, busgirls, etc. in any case I have ordered the sole francaise in the did, it was something of the freshest I had ever. our table had also generous portions of lobster bisque, perfect oysters rockefeller, several sorts of sandwiches/rolls-ALL wonderful. this would have been a perfect 10 experience if only for this waitress (they need some improvement in the training of workers on how to explain the menu how to avoid offensive customers if these waiters continue to work here), but since I know I will make sure not to get them again, I will offer for everything else that this restaurant has to offer.

Never a bad experience here. Staff and owner are super friendly. Highly recommend coming here.
