One of our favorite restaurants in Florence is Osteria del Cinghiale Blanco and we went to Ristoro del Cinghiale hoping for a slice of Florentine food and atmoshpere. What we got was a little short of that but this is a very good addition to the NY restaurant scene. The room is a nice rustic, with bar tables in the front and wood tables in the back. The staff greeted us with a smile and served us enthusiastically although slightly inefficiently. We found some good Tuscan wines by the glass and started with some delicious flavored salumi and excellent Tuscan style bread. Then we shared the risotto and the pappardelle cinghiale, both of which were excellent. The owner sat and talked with us for nearly 10 minutes. The room is conducive to easy conversation. For $60/pp, tax and tip included, the price was fair but not a bargain. We expect to return.
Main dish boar mix disappointing. Appetizers and service very good.
First time here and I LOVED it. Had the risotto with mint and snow peas.
I so wanted to love this place. The place is adorable, rustic like a typical Tuscan lodge. I grew up in Italy and know my way around authentic Italian fare. The first disappointing element of this place is that the grill is in the middle of the restaurant. While visually that’s great, the whole place was filled with smoke as they cooked meat and therefore our clothes smelled of wild boar for days. I had what I thought would be a light spring salad with artichokes. I had just gotten fresh ones at the market so I know they are in season, here they choose to use canned. The salad already had enough salt with the anchovies and olives, but they added even more to it. I like salty foods but this was much even for me. The entree was a mixed grill of wild boar. The sausage was super spicy (it never mentioned this on the menu description) and the ribs were very dry. It’s expected to not be super juicy given the type of meat but these were overlooked. The service was fine and the ambience was visually appealing but unless you get to sit out in the garden, don’t go in the winter or you’ll be inhaling smoke throughout your meal.
