Mel's Burger - New York

I literally just finished my Hot Mess burger and have to write this review because it was the best burger I ever had. Ordered it medium, it came out a bit more rare than that, but that's exactly how I like it. The house beer is nothing special, but good nonetheless.

It?s a shame, but they choose who to serve there. I went in with my girls (very hungry and hot). I noticed it says bar service at the table, I casually went up to the bar to order. The waitress said she would be at the table in a moment. I sat down and waited. She brought water over after some time (no big deal) but didn?t take our order and walks away briskly. Again, no big deal. She then proceeded to take the order of about 10 college gentlemen who were at the bar. I tried to flag her down, as anyone who has kids knows getting the order in right away is the only way to survive a restaurant trip. The second waitress came over and proceeded to mention that it was bar service only. I was a bit irate at this point and tried to explain that I went to place my order and the other waitress asked me to sit down. She then said, ?whatever miss, I?ll take your order.? That when I decided they actually didn?t want to serve us at all. We left. A hungry 4 year old and 7 year old. They don?t want families, only college kids. It?s a shame because I know they have good food.

Good burger and delicious fries. Went there for lunch and dinner. Burgers are cooked perfectly, generous with ingredients and very tasty. Not the best burger ever but very good. Fries are delicious with the special fries sause they make. They are cooked perfectly. I've tried all the fries and the normals are my favourite but they are all good. The boneless chickenwings are excellent, maybe my favourite bite there. The mac cheese balls are good but not cheezy enough in my opinion. Service is very good as staff at this place is fantastic. If you are around, one of my favourite spot to eat.

It had an ok selection of burgers. I had the French Onion burger with au ju sauce and melted swiss with horseradish the only problem was that they didnt have different size of burgers and the burger was not seasoned well.

Last 2 (few years ago) experiences were bad and reason why me and my guests stop going there. They experienced it as well on separate occasions. We previously to the last 2 experiences we visited often as food and service was very good that's until staff changes. The bad experiences was we were charged more than other customers and treated differently. We were made to wait longer to place and receive orders as others place ordersafter us and got their items before us. It started to become uncomfortable and seem as if it was being done on purpose. We were a small group of color but not sure if that had anything to do with it. Not sure if this was done on purpose to get us out of there by employee (at bar) internationally but hope it was not done by supervision/management. For the record I am just stating my last 2 experiences. I miss going there and not sure if I ever will. Would be nice to see if those experiences would not happen again to me plus miss the food, vibes and spiked milkshakes. Pictures are from 1 of the better experiences as this day I had guests from Coney Island and Far Rockaway visit Mel's and loved it. Overall I want to thank Mel's Burger Bar for all the memories.
