Silver Whistle Cafe - New Orleans

A historic gem has been beautifully restored, making it worth a visit just for the stunning interior (don’t miss the bar in the hotel lobby, featuring gorgeous hand-painted bayou murals). The grits here are stone-ground and hearty, prepared using a traditional recipe that makes them incredibly tasty without any cheese or additional ingredients. I absolutely loved them. The hash browns, cooked in duck fat, are equally delightful—don’t overlook them. I indulged in the pimento cheese omelette because, why not? I was in the mood for a lavish culinary experience, and it definitely did not disappoint.

I had some incredible meals during my week in New Orleans, but I have to say that breakfast at Silver Whistle Cafe was truly exceptional! The atmosphere was a delightful mix of historic charm and modern style. The coffee was among the best I had in NOLA. Even the seemingly simple dishes stood out with remarkable quality; for example, the breakfast parfait was absolutely perfect. I typically don’t order that kind of dish at restaurants since it's easy to make at home and often too sweet, but this one surpassed any parfait I’ve ever prepared! The granola had a comforting, nutty flavor and was layered with rich, unsweetened yogurt and fresh fruit. The balance of crunchy and creamy, as well as tangy and sweet, was just right. The egg white frittata may not have sounded particularly exciting at first, but it was surprisingly flavorful while remaining light. Plus, the fresh greens and radishes added a nice textural contrast that kept things interesting. The service was quick and friendly as well. Overall, it was a relaxed and delicious way to start the day!

Edit: we tried this place a 2nd day while in town and it was way better! Service was perfect and it met our expectations. Previous review: We came in for a late breakfast. Only one other couple was there. We were seated immediately, given water, and order taken. After that, service was lacking especially considering they weren't busy. Food took a very long time but tasted delicious. They didn't come by to refill water, so we did it ourselves (saw water dispenser sittingout. Had to ask for our check. Food was nice but only come if time isn't of concern.

I visited on September 28, 2022, and had a great experience. The restaurant was clean, and the staff was friendly.

What a fantastic restaurant! I highly recommend it! The food was outstanding, the coffee was delicious, and the service was top-notch! My waitress, Moon, was incredibly welcoming and attentive. When I had to take a Zoom meeting and my laptop was about to die, she was so helpful in finding a solution. I truly appreciate her assistance! I will definitely be returning!
