I've been here since 1980 and it's definitive comfort that I long. the salsa they bring with the chips is delicious. I live 45 minutes away, but it is worth the trip. the service is always fast and the quality of food is consistent. Don't think the 1 stars hate.
Good Mexican food. quite standard Texas Mexicans eating. Last Thursday at 6:30 o'clock we floated the river and wanted to eat something. in the evening we went very loud and very crowded. had waited 15 minutes. I have a margarita and it was very sweet. I asked why it was so sweet. they said their margaritas are made with wine, not they are a typical tequila margarita. are they aware that these margaritas are not the ones they are used to drink. they are in order if they only want an alcoholic drink, but if they are used and want a good margaritas, I would skip that. this is a great location when the river swims.
I’d asked our hotel where a good place was to grab some Mexican food and drinks. She highly recommended this place. We went in with high expectations despite the dumpy building. This place has apparently been there for years, however we found out the place had no liquor license and had limited beer selection in which they didn’t even have the ingredients to make a michaleda. What beer they did have was served in a plastic mug that just came out of the dishwasher, so it was still hot. The food was a disappointment as well. No flavor at all. Not sure how this place is still in business?
My go-to for Mexican food in San Marcos for the past 20+ years. Always delicious, always consistent, never a bad experience. We started with some yummy chile con queso with the chips salsa. My flautas were crispy and the chicken was shredded and chopped so it didn't all come out with the first bite. Refried beans and rice were perfection. The hubbs' combo plate was amazing with a cheese enchilada, crispy beef taco, and a bean cheese chalupa, rice beans. Even if there's a wait, it's well worth it.
My personal favorite are their cheese enchiladas, specifically on their special day Wednesday. They're more consistently good for the Wednesday lunch special. Their nachos are great as well, in addition to their sweet tea. Been coming here for years. It's not always great and I don't like everything on the menu, but I'll keep coming back.
