Cathay Restaurants - Nepean

My family of four ordered delivery & it arrived in about 30 minutes, still very hot. Both the person on the phone who took our order & the delivery driver were very pleasant. This was the first time we'd tried the Cathay on Woodroffe & we were all pleased. We had Cantonese chow mein, almond chicken guy ding, beef egg foo young, chicken chop suey & chicken fried rice & we enjoyed all the dishes. As a nice touch, the fried rice was free, because our order was over $33. Since the portions were so generous, we had plenty of leftovers for lunch the next day.

With the weather being what it was in Ottawa, we decided to have Chinese good delivered. it was the first time we had ordered from Cathay and we were not disappointed. There were three of us, so we went with the dinner for three (which we don't normally do). At Cathay you get your choice of soup - wonton or hot and sour and you also get a choice of eggroll or spring roll. I thought this was nice. The meal for 3 included 3 other dishes (in addition to the two appetizers). The spring rolls wrappers were excellently done - crispy not greasy but the filling seemed to be only cabbage, which I thought was a little odd. The hot and sour soup had the heat expected but could have used more seasoning. Out main dishes were great! Crispy beef was delicious and lots of it. Lemon chicken soo guy was excellently prepared and the sauce not too sweet. Bhudda veggies were nice and crunchy. Their chicken fried rice was good as well. We got an extra fried rice because the order was over $33. Overall, I thought this was great value. We could easily have fed 4-5 people with this dinner. Delivery arrived at the time promised. Even the almond cookies were tasty and oversized! I will definitely order from Cathay again.

Cathay is far from the best Chinese food in the Ottawa, but it is probably the best Canadian-Chinese in Nepean. The open-ended egg rolls are meaty, the soups are flavourful, the chicken balls (my kids like them) have large chunks of breast meat. Nothing is spectacular, but everything is done well. Take-out and delivery only - there is one table.

The cantonese chow mein and spicy crispy beef are both excellent. The open ended egg rolls are crunchy yet not greasy. The szechuan beef has a nice selection of veggies.

We have been getting Chinese food at the Cathay for a couple of years now. Bo and his staff are always friendly and happy to see us. The service is excellent, the food is always hot and fresh. It is good value for your money. Thanks Bo, keep up the good work!Peter
