The Black Cauldron - Nelson

Our afternoon at the Black Cauldron was simply lovely. Our server was so knowledgeable about the food and drink and the service was attentive without being hovering. The ambiance was quiet at 3:30-5 when we were there and we felt relaxed and never rushed. The cocktails were amazing! And we’d go back just for those, but the food was so delicious I’m sure we’d order something to eat again too! My husband had the prize winning burger and I had a scrumptious meat and cheese board.

Such a wonderful atmosphere. We enjoyed the former restaurant here for many years. The service was very uneven mistakes were made, at times it prompt and at other times slow. My husband ordered a non alcoholic drink. He thought it had alcohol in it but I thought he was imagining things until we saw the charge for an alcoholic drink on the bill. The cocktail I had was awesome as was my husband’s. The phyllo cup appetizers similarly very tasty. The kale and quinoa salad was edible but nothing spectacular. The vegan mezze platter was another thing. It was $32 for a double and mostly consisted of two dips both of which looked unappetizing and lacked any flavour. The candied walnuts were good but the other components were mostly fresh vegetables and bread. We will definitely not be returning.

Enjoyed the drinks charcuterie and dessert board with 2 co-workers. This is the second time I have been to the Back Cauldron. I'd recommend it if you have plenty of time.
