It doesn't seem to matter what it is that David Coomer turns his attention to - it always seems to work (although everything would be vastly improved if only he would do those little liquorice ice creams that were part of the degustation at Star Anise). The dining space has an almost velvety feel to it - the walls are near black, it's softly lit and intimate. The staff are relaxed and service is unobtrusive. We definitely over-ordered but I suppose there are worse things you can do than overindulge in this food - but our eagerness meant we did not get to dessert. We started with the pig's ear katsu and the Esperance scallop with pineapple and caramelised duck neck - both bite sized and a perfect way to kick start the appetite. Yellow curried mussels were sensational - I probably would have been happy with a large bowl all to myself. A smoky, just seared lamb and eggplant dish followed - it was melt in the mouth tender and we probably should have stopped... read more
Amazing flavours and awesome attention to detail! Never disappointed with the offering at Fuyu. Intimate, relaxed and super friendly, Perth is lucky to have this gem in their deck of cards
I don't know why they have a mid range rating. To be honest the food here is really good. The flavours are so refreshing and new. This will definitely be a restaurant to visit over and over again. Worth trying

A smoky, just seared lamb and eggplant dish followed - it was melt in the mouth tender and we probably should have stopped there. Our last dish was the crispy aromatic duck - their signature dish. It was fabulously crispy and the flesh was tender and juicy but it did not pack the same flavour punch of the other dishes. Maybe a diminished appetite dulled our taste buds, but it left me a little disappointed. Overall I loved the place - the food is packed full of flavour and we'll be back.
