Really great service.The food was so good as well.Had the international breaky.Really good scrambled eggs and shredded potatoes.The best part was the French

So what's that stuff called? On the menu it's fruit salad but really, what you get, cannot possibly be fruit.

We stopped here for lunch before grabbing ferry to Gabriola Island. Unfortunately, it was a mediocre experience. I had the hot turkey sandwich which was supposed to be on special. On checking the menu, that was the regular price. I felt this was misleading but whatever. The amount of turkey was skimpy as was the dressing which was lacking in texture and taste. At $14.99, they could have done much better. My partner had the fish and chips and didn't like them. He was particularly disappointed in the lowend, tasteless tartar sauce. On the other hand, staff was friendly, courteous, efficient and the facility was very clean. It was also conveniently located near the ferry terminal which was a plus.

I have always enjoyed eating at Smittys Restaurants - however, this place is the exception. In all fairness I returned two times to see if there had been any improvement.Our first visit was a disaster, First we had to wait to be seated (plenty of empty seats) because the waitresses just kept walking by without acknowledging we were there. Secondly, we waited ten minutes to get our coffee and then another 15 minutes before be able to order our food. It was over a half of an hour before our food finally arrived and it was not the way we had ordered our breakfast - eggs were hard instead of over easy.Thirdly (such as word?) The waitress never came by to check if all was okay (had to wave her down) Never did get a second cup of coffee.Fourth - had again wave her down to get the bill. Tried to join the Seniors Club as advertised at each table - but they didn't have any applications was told I would have to go to the Southgate Smittys to pick them oup.Over all a bad experience - contacted the main office (via Website) was told via email that they had forwarded my complaint to the owner of that restaurant. Never heard from him/her.Returned two more times just to see if I had arrived on a bad day - but found very little change in the service or overall attitude.WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS SMITTYS TO ANYONE. Southgate is fine with great service.
