Pirate Chips - Nanaimo

We went here this evening for the second time and are generally impressed.

Poutine Clam chowder We liked everythingwe ate, especially the poutine The clam chowder needed salt.

We called in to have one of the famous Nanaimo Bars. We were intrigued to be told that yes we could but it will be deep fried as standard. Two meals in one. Nanaimo Bar Deep Fried in a light batter. Well if you have a sweet tooth you need to try one. Surprisingly nice. Staff were excellent, informative, and efficient.

Had family in town, including 3 kids under 10, so this seemed like a good dinner option. That couldn't have been more inaccurate. After an hour of waiting for our food the server admitted he had forgotten to enter our order. Over an hour and a half after we ordered - keep in mind we've been trying to keep three kids entertained this whole time - our food finally arrived, and it was awful. Their "best fries in Nanaimo" were worse than mediocre, calamari was inedible, and everything else was just poor versions of frozen pre-prepared food thrown in the deep fryer. We weren't expecting too much from this restaurant, simply a place for a basic meal in a kid-friendly environment. This was a terrible, mostly inedible, expensive experience - needless to say, none of us would ever go back.
