Cypress Lakes is a fun, public course that challenges every aspect of one's game. The greens are true and fast. The fairways are tight, but will get more lush with warmer weather. The tee boxes need some work. The pro shop is pretty well stocked and the grill serves decent pub-style fare. This is a true value for the cost.
I personally love this place. I started playing here about 8 years ago before they went to bermuda greens. I thought there was no way bermuda would be as good as the bent grass they had before, but they proved me wrong. These are hands down some of the best greens I have putted on in Alabama. They always roll true with a good pace. The course layout is short, but can be challenging if you don't pick your shots carefully. I'm not a big fan of all the bunkers they removed, but I understand why they did it. Other than RTJ, it's by far the best public course in the area.
Course is very difficult, 2 of the par 3's are at 190 plus yards from middle tees, over water, both holes kill pace of play as does 8 13. Not a place for high handicappers to play. Staff is great. They do allow fivesomes, which is not cool.
Really good golf course. Beware there is a lot of water in play on this course. There are some really difficult shots. The course is in excellent shape. My only complaint is on holes 2 and 10. The tee shots from the back tees are partially blocked by overhanging trees. Using the left tee on 10 would fix the problem, but that was not an option on the day that I played. The back tee on 2 needs to be shifted to the left.
